Haven't had this one since I visited the brewery itself, but it is a very good brew.

Nice aroma and color, plus a decent bitterness. Felt a little watery, but a fairly pleasurable ale.

Bottle, purchased at brewery in WA. Clear, deep chestnut brown with ruby highlights. Putty-colored head is small and fluffy. Intense nutty aroma; also cocoa powder, chocolate ice cream, and suggestions of licorice and tarragon. Flavor is nutty and lightly sweet, with espresso, fruit (gooseberry perhaps?), and some citric acidity. Mouthfeel is on the light side of medium, smooth, and very "wet", if that makes any sense. Mild bittersweet aftertaste with a "green" hop flavor. Everybody brews a porter, but few do it well... sour, overhopped, watery, or sticky sweet porters abound. Blackhook is exceptional; easy-drinking, delicious, and true to style.

UPDATED: FEB 3, 2007 Poured black with creamy head that it retained until the end. Very smooth with little carbonation. I liked it a lot and would recommend. Tasted of roasted malt, coffee and chocolate.

Bottle. Black with thick foamy tan head. Chocolaty malty nose. Sweetish flavour, with notes of chocolate, toffee and unsweetened coffee. Bittersweet chocolate finish with a rather thin body. Drink this if you can find it. It’s a worthy black porter.

Pours dark chocolate brown with a decent buff head. Aroma features roast malt, molasses and subtle licorice tones. Flavor offers roast malt, smoky hops, and touches of molasses and licorice. Mouthfeel presents good body, sassy fizz, and a smoky roast malt and charred hops finish. Hooked on Porter!

A solid porter. A bit weak for my tastes, and a bit too sweet. .............
