Nice clear copper color with fading head. Seemed a bit thin, but I had an SN Pale Ale before it. I like the hop finish, but it could be a bit better. This is a very easy to drink beer. It has a great maltiness and slight alcoholic bite. Very enjoyable.

For rating number 4000, I wanted a local classic that I somehow hadn’t rated so far. A beer that everyone around had had since they have first heard of craft. A beer that calls itself the granddaddy of craft, and since I began drinking beer only 6 years ago, a time when this beer was probably old enough to drink a beer itself, I figured it would be a great milestone beer for a beer drinker who takes so much pride in drinking local. Stubby bottle with a story printed in it, poured at the brand spankin new Red Hook BrewLab, Capitol Hill. A clean copper pour. Plenty of foam head. Aroma is a sweet caramel malt, an Amber lager like nose. This beer was first introduced in 1987, which was before I was even an idea. History in a beer, making it an excellent milestone rate. A ton of caramel throughout. A bit of spice to the grain. Cool finish. This beer deserves the respect. It’s a solid fit for the style in a mass produced format. Can’t believe I never rated it before, and this certainly won’t be the last time I enjoy it.

(bottle) hazy deep golden colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of caramelized pale malts and orange peel, with lots of green pear, a touch of edamame and vanilla. flavour is mostly herbal hops and tobacco, slightly metallic, with lots of gently roasted malts, some vanilla icing and more orange peel in the light-bitter finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with relatively soft carbonation.

22 oz bottle from local store. This is the "standard" by which all other (American) ambers ales are judged. A gold medalist. I’m missing something and I blame myself. Yes, it’s a fine and quite drinkable ale. I just can’t seem to find the gold!

ordybill (1815) - Douglasville, Georgia, USA - JUN 28, 2017
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a cloudy golden yellow with a small white head. The aroma is faint malt. The taste is watery but has caramel malt in it.

From old tasting notes. Amber orange color topped by a creamy white head. Soft fruity malt nose. Tangy caramel malt flavor hints at apples and brown sugar. Nice balance and flavor.

Bottle - pours hazy dark orange with a thin white head. Aroma is orange citrus and cereal malt. Taste is light sweet malt which quickly fades.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is bitter, caramel malt, earthy hop, one-dimensional. Appearance is amber golden, mostly clear, white head. Taste is bitter, earthy hop, caramel malt, easy drinking. Mouthfeel is medium body, light carbonation, bitter caramel aftertaste. Overall, easy drinking, although not great for the style.
