Redhook ESB is modeled after the premium Extra Special Bitters found in English pubs. Brewed since 1987, this full-bodied amber ale is Redhooks signature brew with its toasted malt flavor and pleasant finishing sweetness. Its eminently drinkable style has established Redhook ESB as a benchmark brew in the amber ale category. The well-rounded finish of Redhook ESB makes it a wonderful companion to grilled meats. Dark copper Thin white head. Malty caramel flavor. Subtle sweetness. Nice tasty beer. Not sure why this rates so low.

(12oz bottle, usa) AROMA: malt, vanilla, cheese/dairy, some fruit/cherry. APPEARANCE: medium golden, tad brown, a little cloudy, standard head. TASTE: cherry, some kind of chocolate or nut, a bit sweet upfront, toast, bread crust, some herbal, and light hoppy finish. PALATE: crisp, bright, a little oily, fresh. OVERALL: nice beer, very drinkable, not as bitter as expected, would be a solid, above average every day beer.

From a stubby nose 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Pours gold with head and lace. Aroma of grains, pale malt, straw hops, orange zest. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of pale malt, grains, minerals, caramel, slight molassas, cinnamon, tropical fruit rind. Overall sweet and malty with some interesting complexity.

This ESB poured a nice amber colour with a huge off white, creamy head. Scents include cereal, honey and a little caramel. First swig was not bad with flavours of cereal, light hops, honey and mild caramel. Finish was a little bitter with hoppy caramel flavours lingering... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a mid-orangey-amber with a one-finger creamy frothy head that diminished slowly to a cap that laced OK. Carbonation high, average and with medium sized bubbles. Aroma of caramel, malt and hints of sweet citrus/orange. Taste of caramel malt, quite sweet with low bitterness. Light body. Smooth and soft with a short sweet finish.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine & More, Louisville; bottle dated Jul 07 16. Aroma: Pleasant lemon peel and botanical hop aroma with a lightly toasted malt presence. Appearance: Transparent, light copper color with a stream of bubbles holding up a foamy bone head that settles into a sticky, patchy skin. Flavor: Moderate toast and caramel malt initially with more of a spicy, lightly fruity hop presence towards the finish, which is mildly bitter and semi-dry. Palate: Medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: This is not going to fool anyone familiar with the likes of Fullers ESB. Still, its interesting enough to serve as a fall cookout/hangout beer in a pinch.

Poured from a bottle, short-lived head and little lacing, but very effervescent and an attractive semi-opaque amber color. It may be an extra-special bitter, but its not extra-bitter...almost a sweet aroma, tart taste with some pine.
