Dark brownish red in color. Poured without much of a head. Smells yeasty but yummy. Metallic aftertaste.

Pours a light brown color with little head. The aroma is rather bland and weak. The flavor has some strong, boring malt flavors. Not much complexity or balance. Rather uneventful I must say.

WabashMan (1024) - Noblesville, Indiana, USA - FEB 11, 2003
Slightly spicy ale, with nice color, but weak aroma. Decent, but certainly nothing exceptional in this offering from Redhook.

freekyp (2193) - Thomasville, North Carolina, USA - FEB 10, 2003
Thick body. Deep reddish color with quickly dissipating head. Sourness mixed with spiciness. Not much aftertaste.

Nice dark color. Great thick taste. Good amount and color of head. Good amount of alcohol.

estoppel (1028) - Buffalo, New York, USA - FEB 3, 2003
Reddish body with rising carbonation, small white head, malty nose. Bitter start, bready finish.

This beer is just a basic ale. There really isn't anything fancy about it. It certainly isn't robust. There is alight hint of spruce on the palate, but after that, just a regular old ale. Make this beer bigger please!

Huh. The main problem here is that I just had Bell's Old Ale and this beer instantly came on like the whiny, annoying third cousin of that marvelous beer. This is pretty pathetic - quiet, limp, basic stuff.

redlem (1306) - Ohio, USA - JAN 25, 2003
You can tell this was made by Redhook, it has that " taste". Brownish amber color, with a piney aroma. This finished slightly dry. Not as good as their ESB but still worth drinking during the season.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2007 Attractive copper color. Tons of lace. Hoppy aroma with undertones of sweet malts. Sweet front. Slightly astringent. Some roasty toffee notes and hints of brown sugar. Dry finish. The first bottle I had of this was delicious but the rest from the same six pack were not nearly so good, with some oxidized notes coming out in the finish.
