12 ounce bottle from a sampler. Pours a hazy dark rusty red color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, fruity notes, a bit of chocolate and bitter, peppery hops. Taste is caramel, cinnamon, bitter leafy hops. Medium bodied. BeerandBlues2 (13304) - Escondido, California, USA - NOV 13, 2003
Extremley nice fruity aroma with hints of coriander. Taste is definitely a strong bitter with an average finish. Almost peppery on the palate. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - NOV 18, 2003
(Draught) Pours a copper color with a thin white head. Descent tasting beer with a nice clean palate. Dogbrick (13006) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - DEC 18, 2002
2002 bottle: I wasn’t expecting too much from this one and I was not let down. It definitely needs to warm a little for any flavor to come through. Pours a dark amber color with minimal head and lace. Aroma is lightly matly and spicy. Flavor is slightly nutty with a little butterscotch or caramel but overall it is thin. Not as robust as I like my winter ales. crossovert (12874) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 14, 2011
Just kind of an average beer. It is pretty malty with some caramel but there is a nice bit of hops.

On tap (12/10/03). Poured a dark Amber color with a very small tan head. Slight hoppy taste. Not a bad beer but I prefer their ESB. jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - OCT 16, 2006
on tap-pours an offwhite head that laces with clear red color. Aroma is citrus hops, medium malt-somewhat sweet. Taste is citrus hops, medium malt-somewhat sweet, comes across as an APA. OK/mild carbonation. Sammy (12195) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 29, 2008
Pours a bockish colour with some retaining head. Mild malt and spice aroma. Middling mouthfeel. A bit better than average beer. slowrunner77 (12037) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 18, 2014
"a nice nutty malt flavor greets you, but it kind of goes off the tracks after that. better than their average beer, but with the abundance of winter ales out there, this one is easily passable."

Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin beige head. Aroma was full of roasted malts, but a little weak over all. Flavor was a bit weak as well with roasted malts and a bit of alcohol.
