Keg at the Bow Bar. More like a dark lager, thin, sweet, dry roast, not enough body.

Keg Garibaldi Northampton 26/02/14. A mahogany coloured beer with a whitish head. Slight roasty notes. Hints of sweet oatmeal. Cornflake notes. A bit thin in all honesty. Too keggy cold again.

Keg at the Bow Bar. Strangely brown. See-through in fact. Aromas are at the chocolate end, no real roast, some biscuit and honeycomb. Taste is light a black and tan. Makes for a nice dark bitter.

On tap @ the Bow Bar winter beer festival. Appearance - doesn’t look like a stout, not opaque black but chestnut brown and the appearance is not creamy. Decent head. Nose - again, while it has some stout characteristics such as chocolate, there are a few other style characteristics in there too. Like biscuits as in a bitter and nuts in a Wee Heavy. In fact, there’s an overwhelming Crunchie Bar thing going on. Taste - as with the nose, and it’s very nice. Palate - medium bodied with a big crunchy texture and a nicely balanced finish. Overall - it aint a stout but it is good.

Otterdance (164) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - FEB 3, 2014
Tap House. Dark brown with a dense white head. Mild smell of malt and leather. Flavour is slightly toasted malt with a bitter twang, but all of this is really hard to discern as the beer is served heavily chilled which knocks the aroma and taste into the background. Super thin for a stout, fair carbonation which is pretty fine. Case for cask over chilled keg?

Draft at Howl at the Moon, Hackney on 11 January 2014. Poured a fairly dark ruby, but altogether very pale for an oatmeal stout. Thin, dense, off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of chocolate, grass and toffee. Mouthfeel was pretty medium. Flavours of burnt malt, straw and cereal. Toasty finish with some peat and cocoa. Not bad, but far lighter than I was expecting.

Cask conditioned at The Holborn Whippet, Holborn, London. Dark brown with cream head. Quite thin on the palate with some sweetness, fruity along with a wet cardboard character. Quite disappointing really for this type of beer.
