Marlborough Pale Ale, or M.P.A. for short, is a uniquely kiwi take on an American Double India Pale Ale and is the biggest beer in our range. It is also the most philanthropic as it contributes significantly to the national economies where it is sold due to its generous donations to the excise tax man! The style is based on the Americans intention to create a massively hopped full-bodied, higher alcohol Pale Ale to showcase the bitterness flavour and aroma of their locally grown hops. Rather than simply copying the Americans, Renaissance Brewing has taken the concept and turned it into a kiwi brew by utilising not only New Zealand grown hops but also by choosing to use only New Zealand hop varieties. M.P.A. is a released seasonally as it uses the new seasons hops every southern hemisphere autumn. In the current vintage release (2009) Renaissance has chosen to use a single variatal, Rakau, a hop recently released by Hort Research. M.P.A. showcases the lovely piney, apricot and stone fruit flavours that Rakau is capable of, balancing its flavour and bitterness against a strong malty full bodied Ale. M.PA. is massively hopped. A normal brew has 3 or 4 hop additions, M.P.A. had 13 additions, and this yielded an ale with approximately 120 hops per bottle. 500ml Bottle, Stainless Keg, Key Keg (Export)

Cloudy appearance, suggesting a good beer. Aroma was surprisingly low and non-descript. Malty taste with plenty of punch. Good, but a touch underwhelming to be honest

Renaissance MPA 8.5% A deep copper orange gold with a thick head and an aroma that is initially fruity but on first sip I felt this was either old or heat damaged. Very sweet and syrupy with a pine and fruit hops and hints of mint in the finish. Syrupy sweet and bitter. Stick with the dark beers from them. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle enjoyed at home
Dark copper, huge thick beige head. Smell of grapefruit, citrus, caramel, hints of cabernet grapes, malts, herbs and spices. Medium sweet, nicy malty flavor, caramel, resins, pine citrus and spices. Heavy bitter, resin tail. Quite nice

Bottle. Bought Aug 2017 at GBBF; BBE Sept 2017; Drank Aug 2017 - Clear orangey gold in colour. Medium creamy off-white head. Very Malty; heavily malted, toasty, caramel, toffee. Fruity; grapefruit and orange citrus, rind. Bit spicy. Hoppy; good hop bitterness, piney hops. Big sweet malts meet bitter citrus fruit and piney hops. Lingering bitter finish. Quite dry. Near it’s BB date and probably not at it’s best. Nevertheless, a punchy brew. Decent enough. (2017-08)

Bottle at home. Somewhat hazy orange with a medium white soapy head. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Quite bitter with nice fruity sweetness. Pine, tropical fruits, citrus and malts. Nice!

yngwie (17368) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - APR 17, 2017
Bottle, at Duggfrisk. It pours an unclear, dark orange colored body and a dense, beige head. Lots of pine cones in the aroma, some tropical aromas and sweetish malts. Citrus zest too. There’s a good bitterness in the mouth, with malty sweetness to balance it, still it feels rather dry, especially towards the finish. Full body and a nice carbonation, with orange zest, pine cones and some tropical fruits. Long bitter finish. Delicious. 160820
