On tap at the brewery. Pour is deep, opaque brown and murky with a light crimson tint; little-to-no head. Big bourbon and wood characteristics on the nose; coconut, vanilla, light peat, anise, and black licorice. Taste is very sweet, almost cloyingly with notes of whiskey, caramel, wood, smoke, candi sugar, and toffee. Sticky mouthfeel with almost no carbonation. Really too one-dimensional for me to enjoy and much too sweet. I feel like the barrel treatment completely dominates the palate. Not really my thing.
Dark mahogany ruby in color, with a little beige head. Sweet and boozy aroma with bourbon, vanilla, oak, raisin, and a sugary earthy maltiness. Very thin carbonation, almost flat, but it brings a certain smoothness that really works for the flavor. Nice sweet boozy tones of sugary bourbon, oak, peat moss, sweet dark maltiness, raisin, and something akin to softly burnt citrus. A delightful sipper.

Tap at Renegade - dark purplish red - nose is pretty much all bourbon and barrel - vanilla, whiskey, damp oak, toasted coconut - if you love bourbon, which I do, youíll probably really dig the nose, despite the fact that you canít really smell any of the original beerís characteristics - low carbonation in the mouth - surprisingly tart - the oak takes over in the flavor as well, but initially the character is more tannic and wine-like - the middle brings the rich maltiness you expect from the style, as well as a touch of earthy peat and notes of cocoa - vanilla and bourbon late, along with a touch of spice - a touch of acidity in the finish cuts its sweetness - I donít always dig bourbon barrel beers these days, but when I do, they taste like this.
