3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black with a thin white head. Aroma is strong vanilla and cocoa with a hint of cinnamon. Flavor is big roasted cocoa with a good dose of vanilla. Cinnamon isn’t quite as noticeable in the taste. A bit bitter in the finish, this would benefit a bit from a rounder body. I think it would work well as a porter or stout, but it still packs a good bit of flavor. Makes for a good dessert beer, not overly sweet but a lot of complementary flavors.
Pours a medium dark amber color. Aromas of caramel, nuts, and maybe a hint of fruit. Flavors of nut, sweet malts, and some mild hop bitterness towards the end. ben4321 (6735) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - OCT 18, 2015
22 oz bottle from State Line (a while ago) that I have pulled from the back of the fridge, 10/18/15. It pours a dark brown color with a thick, creamy froth of tan head on top. The coffee and chocolate come through in the aroma and the taste. There’s a bit of a raisin/dark fruit thing as well. Oak shows up here and there, but isn’t predominant. Smooth mouthfeel, rather creamy. I’m not sure exactly what affect the age has had on this one, but it shows nothing that I can see would have been obviously hurt by the time. Nice beer. Bomber. Clear deep copper, firm fine tan foam lasts. Aroma of cocoa, coffee and sweet vanilla. Taste is bitter dark roast, cocoa and coffee, cinnamon and sweet vanilla. Average carbonation, medium-full bodied, lightly hopped. Seems to have aged well, almost stout-ish. NFL (Not For Lagerboys) mcberko (18949) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 9, 2015
22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small tan head. Aroma brings out spicy peppers and cinnamon. Flavour is quite nasty, with stale spicy cinnamon upfront, with some spicy peppers. No hint of cocoa. Really quite stale and weak. Meh. radagast83 (8456) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - APR 16, 2015
Draft at the DC Beer Festival in Nationals Stadium. Poured a dark ruby color with a small off-white head. Aroma was incredibly sweet, dried fruits. Lots of booze comes through, some roasted malts. Flavor was some light roast, sweet dark fruits, tart fruits. Light red wine.

Bottle from a fridge. Pours dark ruby with tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, vanilla, nuts, and dark chocolate. Taste is very strong of vanilla, with coffee and chocolate and caramel. Medium bodied and smooth mouthfeel. It’s okay. RobertDale (6848) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - JAN 5, 2015
Shared bottle. Pours dark brown with a decent tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, malt, and spice. Taste is malt, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and spice. Interesting in a good way. sudomorph (1189) - Barrie, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 31, 2014
650ml bottle. Pours a clear, deep ruby with a thin, khaki head. Aroma has notes of roasted malts, vanilla, nuts, and dark chocolate. Something I can?t place. Taste is balanced. Slight vanilla with roasted malts, peanuts, chocolate, caramel, and a short finish. Medium-full body with a medium carbonation. Smooth in the mouth with a semi-dry finish. Overall interesting. Vanilla, roast, caramel, nuts. Yum. monk191 (2023) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 18, 2014
A nice beer overall. Pours a thick dark brown with a milky tan head. Smells of cinnamon and cocoa. Taste is cinnamon all around, with some vanilla at the start and lots of bitter chocolate coming in the finish. Good, but we have had better examples of this style, like campfire stout or imperial tanilla. Had in the bottle. Homer321 (5190) - Melboring, Florida, USA - NOV 19, 2014
Bottle. Really weird nose. almost spicy, but I don’t think they put peppers in this beer anymore. Pour is brown with a medium sized off white to light khaki head. Taste is pretty flat. lightly spicy, but chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla are all very muted. pretty mediocre.
