Bottle at home. Pours brown with a large, frothy and thick beige head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast and nutty malt, dates, chocolate and light earthy hops. Flavor is chocolate, toast and nutty malt, dates, light earthy hops and a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation. iwantalambic (1478) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - MAR 27, 2005
.5 L, capped bottle: clear, orange-brown with bronze highlights. Sweet, malty aroma with fruity undertones and a bit of toasted & buttered bread. Plate is a bit thin and underdeveloped, but does boast a pretty decent malted grain and roasted nut flavour. A light milk-chocolate comes through in the finish, but this one was a little disappointing – not quite as robust and rounded as I would have liked. starfireming (309) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - AUG 4, 2006
Caramel and malt aroma. Clear chestnut brown colour and lasting off-white head. Nice complexity of flavours, malt and toffee, but it’s undermined halfway through by an intrusive roasted citrus. Mmph. gunhaver (1030) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JUN 14, 2007
UPDATED: JUN 5, 2008 My first real dive into Germans; mainly been attracted to American micros and Belgians beforehand. A beautiful beer here. Very sweet and fruity aromas. The taste is fairly light and watery, and a bit of, I dare say, a meat flavor? It’s a lot of things, but one thing is not is "bad." Enjoy this one, it’s good. bhensonb (15848) - Woodland, California, USA - AUG 24, 2007
Bottle; L7150 (whatever that imparts). Rich caramel aroma, backed by coffee and chocolate. Deep mahogany color topped with a beige head that is respectable. Full bodied, with creamy carbonation. The flavor is caramel, with something wet paperish/earthy - not a bad thing - works well. Persistence brings up some chocolate. The finish is more dry than sweet, and there are dark notes - like a mix of chocolate, coffee and something I can’t put my tongue on - could be nuttiness. Very drinkable.

Pours reddish brown, simple, sweet, roasted malts, little bready, little nutty. Jukkabro (3484) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 18, 2009
Coppery colored with little yellow head. Chocolaty-nutty aroma with some grains and vegetables, good dunkel aroma. Thin to medium bodied. Flavor is more roasted with nuts in start, caramel also here with some burnt tone. Aftertaste dries with flowery vegetables and some cookie note. Good and original dunkel. alexanderj (3605) - Branson, Missouri, USA - JUL 28, 2009
Bottle; poured a dark auburn with a khaki colored head. Aroma was quite nice; doughy, caramel, nuts with a bit of cocoa dust. Flavor was not as good; dry and malty. Alot of chocolate malt with a good dash of mineral water. Some earthiness and caramel, with a small, but noticeable hop presence in the finish. Palate was at times a bit on the watery side. Ok, but expected more after the solid aroma. 17thfloor (2444) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 29, 2009
Bottle. Pours a near-perfect, for a dunkel, clear, slightly red, dark brown with a fantastic thick tall foamy beige froth 4.5. Aroma of hay, munich malts, sweet and nutty, hint of chocolate. Flavor follows, dark but light and drinkable, not terribly sweet either, earthy, chocolate, bread and hay, nutty, fairly bitter finish. Watery body, med/light, slightly heavy but with low carbonation and no stickiness making it easy to drink. Satisfying. Pinball (12414) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - DEC 16, 2009
Clear brown, small white head.
