Thank you Mathieu87 & PriorL! 375 ml. bottle sampled @ “Mathieu’s house cooling party”. Dark amber with no head. Nose oddly carries some chlorine, sugar, acidic, old wood, herbal. Taste is strongly oxidized, chlorine, sugar, chemical, strong oxidation notes, sugar, herbs, old wet wood,… Thin with low carbonation. Happy to try this one but I feel like this one has been entirely lost to oxidation in a bad way. It is a shame but all things must come to an end. ericdevin (988) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - NOV 10, 2014
Bottle from Corvallis Brew Supply, a slightly more acetic and sharp character than the other three. Very tannic, nice but American Oak takes the cake here. HogTownHarry (6836) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - OCT 6, 2014
September 6, 2014 - 330ml bottle shared by theydon_bois with me and harrisoni. Cloudy deep amber with a decent fluffy lasting straw-coloured head. Smells like a barleywine - nutty, lots of malt, definite alcohol, some woody character but not a lot - spicy (8+). Taste follows, but a tad thin - not the malt monster I was expecting. Average body, airy mouthfeel, medium-length finish, and not at all boozy - a little dry tingle in the aftertaste. Bottle split in Mother Arch, acquired from Brasserie 4:20 Feb ’14.
Murked up amber/chestnut brown with a well appointed beige covering.
Nose is candied fruit peel, spice, toffee, sweet notes, mellow dark fruit, nutty tones.
Taste comprises toffee, light spice, dates, figs, dark fruit rinds, lightly oxidised but not too detrimental to the flavour, candied fruit.
Medium + body, fine carbonation, sweetish licks in a semi drying close.
Decent enough offering, has aged fairly gracefully, drinks below 11%. harrisoni (18578) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - SEP 6, 2014

37.5cl Bottle from De Molen, bought a long time ago. Why is this listed as a BSA here, when it clearly says "Strong IPA" on the label? Anyway: Hazy orange colour, almost no head. Aroma of apple juice, liquorice powder, yeast, oranges. Flavour is medium-sweet, malty, orange, floral, yeast, earth, liquorice, something quite spicy, sharp citrus, some biting alcohol, bitter fruity finish with a hint of wood. Medium to full-bodied. It’s way past its BB date I think, doesn’t smell or look very nice, but has some interesting and nice flavours. daje (4436) - NORWAY - JUL 15, 2013
Bottle at Olympen, june 29th 2013. Cloudy dark golden body, small white head. Aroma of malt, spices, wood and grapefruit. Taste is yeasty with grassy and red-fruity hops, lots of caramel. Sweet taste, thick body, piney end, warm alcohol and malt aftertaste. Not quite sure what to make of this. Wolfbass (1166) - Firenze, ITALY - APR 27, 2013
Grande bere!! PotjeBier (3346) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAR 5, 2013
UPDATED: MAR 7, 2013 And a third 4 year old bottle, next to the French Oak & American Oak. Golden to amber color, clear, seems there’s a bit more carbonation. Aroma’s: herbal, tea, caramel & biscuit retronasal, bergamot. Flavor is medium sweet, light bitter, with biscuit. Medium bodied, drinks easily too. Finishes slightly dry with a medium bitterness. Not much left of the wood, alas. zaf (308) - ITALY - FEB 3, 2013
