COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Cascadian Dark Ale, otherwise know as our Double Black IPA, emerged stylistically from the Pacific North West. It has an IPA backbone with a "special blend" of choice roasted malts combined with a hard hitting matchup of hops, knocking this beer into a new weight class. Dry hopped and unfiltered for maximum flavor and punch. Enjoy it with a trainer!

Treated as an imperial black IPA, this was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a black color with a cap of a little eggshell white foamy head. Some messy lace. The aroma had some coffee, light bitter pine/somewhat sprucy, citrus rind, subtle earthiness, sly wood, dark chocolate and a little bit of grassiness. The flavor was moderately bitter with a touch of the sweet and roast nipping at the back end. Aftertaste was semi-roasty, bitter, hint of sweet. Finish nipped at some roast and pine. The palate was medium bodied with a good grip of the sipping aspect coming about. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine. Overall, pretty nice imperial black IPA. I’d have this again.

12oz bottle from CBC. No bottle date, but presumed fresh since the store didn’t have this a week ago. Pours nearly black with a beige head. Aroma is pine, dank, chocolate, roast. Flavor is dark chocolate, coffee, pine. Pine bitterness and a slight alcohol note in the finish.

Tap at DC Hama. Big chocolate and roasted coffee nose with some light pine notes. Herbal with some light mint and dillweed notes on the palate. Roasted cacao nib and pine notes. Coffee on the finish. Dark cacao and piney finish with light dillweed. Very nice.

Semi-sweet chocolate and toasted almond dominate from start to finish. Bitterness (85 IBU hard to believe), citrus, pine and floral notes could kicked be up a notch or two. Good.

Bottle from Colonial Spirits Dark brown with a tan head. Earthy pine and citrus atop a lightly roasty chocolate sweet maltiness. That’s a pretty good black ipa right there.

Pours a black from a bottle, off-white head with lots of lacing. Aroma of coffee and piney hops, a bit different but it totally works. Very good bittersweet balanced beer.

Dark fruit malt aroma. Black body with a light tan head. Roasted malt character with a light bitter sweet fruit to balance things out. Heavy mouth feel. Although not bad but not really to my personal liking.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2016 Clear, brown color, tan and fluffy head. Intense and complex nose. Very full body, intense flavor, silky texture, hot mouthfeel with abundant carbonation, lingering palate, tasty and balanced finish. Sweet, bitter, crisp, well balanced. Roast flavors predominate, as expected, tar, coffee, milk chocolate, lactose, hoppy, yeasty, resiny, a touch of dill weed, malty. Superb, what a discovery! And a local brewery.
