Bottle purchased at Aficionado’s and sampled at Kurt’s Blarneywine tasting on 3/16/13. Clear reddish copper pour with a medium tan head. Aroma consists of malt, rum, roast and light hop. Malty and caramelly flavor with rum and light chocolate before a sweet finish. BMan1113VR (7931) - Los Angeles, California, USA - AUG 11, 2013
FWIBF. Pours with a hazy brownish hued body with a small tan head. Looks almost brandy like and very thick. Aromas are boozy, caramel, grassy, barrel, citrus, rum, molasses, booze and curacao. Flavors are boozy, rum, barrel, medium bitter, caramelized sugars, molasses. Sweet finish lots of alcohol. Warming, Sledutah (7723) - Utah, USA - FEB 28, 2013

Appearance: Cloudy dark amber with a small off-white head
Sweet malts, brown sugar and ripe fruit
5 oz pour on tap at the Milwaukee Brew Pub (Chicago, IL). Pours a deep amber brown hue, darker with orange copper glow on the edges, some nice haziness, richer deep glow on the edges. A frothy beige head atop dies to a firm film, laces well. Aromas are sticky malts, gentle estery fruit. Banana and apple, gentle pear meet caramel, toffee, and biscuits. Sticky sweet meets barrel, vanilla, gentle spice, gentle yet growing spirit. Sweeter rum influence. Flaked wheat, caramel, barrel tannins and sweetness. Initial is medium bodied, a bit more girthy with sticky malts, caramel and apple, estery fruit, toffee, and some richer banana. Fruity, sweet, middle shows some barrel. Toffee, carmelization, and sticky malt. Vanilla, oak, and firm spirit influence come into play as we delve in further. Rum flavors, sweeter, a touch spicy. It’s a bit hot, harsh, and sweet.. But the barrel itself seems to play well with the base itself. A bit thinner into the back where the heat picks up, tannic and hot spirit influence. The beer goes from sweet and sticky to a bit of a mess on the backend. Perhaps some age will improve this. I can see others liking it quite a bit. For me, it’s certainly big, the rum influence makes it’s presence felt into back and finish. A bit sticky and oxidized at times. Some oranges, paper, and caramel malts. Fruity esters stick around. An oddity. It’s not bad, but it’s weird. A solid barrel aged experiment in the least. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - MAR 10, 2013
Tap at Kedzie Brewery, snifter: Beautiful mahogany hue leading towards a bright amber bottom, small creamy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of brown sugar, rum, honeydew, plum, wood, earthy yeast and a slight peppery edge. The taste is very BA Barleywine-ish with heavy dark fruits and sugars rounded out by earthy and oak notes. Moderate rum character but overly sweet nor cloy. Alcohol helps cleanse the palate which is oily and has a warming finish. This is very nice, good sipping beer.

Thanks to the kind soul who shared this at a recent Tampa Weekly Tasting. Pours a hazy copper with a white head. Nose is wood, rum, booze, dates, plums, sugar, and hints of molasses. Flavor is similar: wood, rum, dates, plums, booze, sugar and lots of nice barleywine flavors. Frank (4208) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 27, 2014
I didn’t realize this was aged in rum barrels and was quite relieved to find I was not insane when I found out it was. This stuff fairly well reeks of white rum. I like rum fine and all but I do like a little more beer character to come through in the finished product. This is a clear brown brew that pours pretty much headless in the glass. There is maybe a bit of bubblegum and caramel to go along w/ the slightly medicinal rum character but not much else. I like big, boozy barrel aged beers but both the beer and the booze seem to be sub-par in this case. TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 1, 2013
651mL at the RBWG after party in the middle of the hotel lobby thanks to b3shine. Pours hazy amber with a small off white head. Nose is sweet and rummy, light wheat. Flavor is a bit on the hot side, more sugary sweetness. I don’t much care for big sweet american barleywines so this not a surprise that I didn’t love this. 750 ml bottle crushed with the dude. Pours a dirty brown color with almost no head. Big sweet aroma of tons of booze, rum, sweet malt notes, vanilla and barrel notes. Flavor is sweet with big booze notes. Fruity sweetness, barrel notes. Slick, oily mouthfeel. Finishes boozy. Nice.
