Draft at Standard Market. 10 oz. glass for $6. A deep, cloudy, murky brown. Lacy, thin strings of foam. Smell is rather light; no heady alcohol. A bit of fruity ester. BUT the taste is indeed big. Thick mouthfeel like a raisin syrup with a slight bit of cherry. Rum is very much in evidence, but hovers in the background. Despite the warming alcohol and thick mouthfeel, it’s not overbearing. Hops only serve to offset the sweetness, unlike a Bigfoot. A lot like a sherry, with a little rum to the rear. The 10 ounces is quite more than enough, thank you. So hard to do more than just sip this wonder. Bacterial (3074) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - APR 24, 2013
Slightly dark amber pour, little to no head. Big spicy rum nose. Beautiful sweet malt profile, nice spice and heat from the rum on the finish. Really nice Barleywine, certainly on the sweet and boozy side. ryanfolty (2655) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - APR 20, 2013
April 20, 2013 - bottle from my buddy Brett. Brownish orange pour with some head that faded quickly. Aroma was caramel, light fruit, sugar and wood. Taste was consistent with aroma, but had some nice heat that blended well with the sweetness. MIBRomeo (2579) - Wisconsin, USA - AUG 19, 2013
reddish orange pour thin white head, aroma of sugars/rum, toffee, slight dark fruits, hint of black pepper. Taste is a bit boozy some smoke lots of residual sugar and a hint of spice in the finish. Needs to mellow. That1Guy (2241) - Colorado, USA - OCT 12, 2013
Bomber crushed with Honkeybra. Pours murky brown with a little head. Tons of vanilla on the nose, with some ethyl acetate and booze. Flavor is more vanilla, some sweetness and more booze. Not much rum to speak of. Pretty damn good though.

Bottle from Ryan, nice dark clear amber like apple juice. Aroma is some cinnamon, light wood character, sweet caramel as well. Taste is light fruit, almost apple like, caramel sweetness, very complex, outstanding different profile for a barley wine.

Bottle shared by "hannont". Colour...very cloudy amber with a thin ecru head. Nose...incredibly boozy (rum of course) with oaky notes and vanillin. Palate...sharp, pungent and rummy with gobs of dates and dark brown sugar. The whole palate feels thick and cloying and the alcohol provides a continuous warmth. The finish is long, oaky and boozy. Bottle. Pours barley wine brown. Lots of rum on this, boozy for sure. Sweet caramel with the booze makes this work, but it might be a bit too boozy. mikem409 (2032) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - FEB 23, 2013
Tap at the source. Pours orange solid white head. Aroma is caramel and burnt sugar. Taste follows sweet barrel too. keanex (1799) - Atco, New Jersey, USA - FEB 28, 2013
Appearance: The body is not perfectly clear, but I wouldn’t expect so from a wheat heavy beer aged in oak barrels. The color is a deep chestnut with garnet through. Not much head to note, even on the pour.
Aroma: At first the aroma is sweet of brown sugar, toffee and caramel, but dark fruits peek through with oak and some rum aromas, but they are very mellow. This smells nice, complex and intriguing.
Taste: This is intriguing and complex. On the intro this is sweet with caramel and brown sugar. During the mid-taste dark fruits make an appearance, but they are outshines by the sweetness of the caramel and toffee flavors, this is sweet and enjoyable. The finish hits hard with oak and alcohol that slightly burns, but quickly smooths out to a mellow rum flavor with a lingering touch of vanilla and a caramel sweetness. This is hard to keep up with because the flavor is constantly changing with flavors weaving in and out over the tongue.
Palate: Thick and slightly syrupy, soft carbonation that becomes slightly sharp.
Overall: This is complex and very enjoyable. The finish is a bit hot, but the flavors weave in and out constantly keeping my tongue entertained. This is an excellent beer, well done.
