Draft to snifter at Dutch’s. Looks solid; an opaque dark reddish-brown with sticky off-white head that dissipates into lacing. Smells good too; sweet and boozy with a nice vanilla undertone. Dangerously drinkable too. This is good beer! mikem409 (2026) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - FEB 23, 2013
Tap at the source. Pours orange solid white head. Aroma is caramel and burnt sugar. Taste follows sweet barrel too. aracauna (3604) - Georgia, USA - FEB 23, 2013
Sweet malty. Honey. A lot of sweet flavors, but not too sugary. Good stuff, though. JaBier (7972) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Bottle purchased at Aficionado’s and sampled at Kurt’s Blarneywine tasting on 3/16/13. Clear reddish copper pour with a medium tan head. Aroma consists of malt, rum, roast and light hop. Malty and caramelly flavor with rum and light chocolate before a sweet finish. JPDurden24 (1675) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - AUG 19, 2013
Brown pour with an off-white head. Dark fruits, sugar malts, with some caramel and oak. Some nice rum booziness as well. Good damn beer.

Tasty beer but not digging the rum aroma and the aftertaste is alright. I definitely prefer straight jacket for rev barleywine alexsdad06 (10388) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 3, 2014
Draft at Dutch’s Feb. 2013 notes. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet caramel malts, lightly toasted bread, some fruitiness, rum barrel, slightly boozy, golden raisins, wood, molasses. Solid stuff, I have a bottle I should try soon. hopscotch (11078) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 9, 2014
Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours hazy, dark and burnt-orange with a small, fleeting, off-white head. The aroma is fruity and malty with vinous esters and heaps of gooey caramel. Full-bodied and velvety with gentle carbonation. The flavor is boozy and rich, offering sweet caramel and esters of fortified wine – possibly cream sherry. Creamy, malty, über-warming finale. Kudos to newcigarz for sharing this world class beer! Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - FEB 2, 2013
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep amber colored body with a bit of an orange hue. Finger-width, creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is rich caramels with some wood, hints of molasses, and a nice rum note. Touches of toast and a light fruitiness. Flavor is similar. Rich caramels with a bit more of a molasses sweetness, wood, some vanilla, and a nice rum note. The rum gives off a slight fruitiness and really adds a nice complexity to the rich caramels. Finishes dry and somewhat woody with a deeper caramel, some toast, a light woody spice, and a pleasant rum note. Just barely a hint of alcohol warmth before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Fuller, somewhat sticky body with a creamy, light carbonation. Overall, this is pretty impressive. The rum barrel adds a nice complexity to the big caramel malts without overpowering the base. Really well done anniversary beer. ccex (1313) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Bomber pours an almost clear dark reddish brown with small vanishing off-white head but good lacing. Nose is full of toffee, alcohol and sugar. Aroma is an interesting mix with sweet malts, banana, pear, bread, vanilla, and biscuits. Flavor is definitely sweet with some alcohol burn in the finish. Mouthfeel is sticky. Body is full with slight carbonation. An interesting experiment and still an enjoyable big beer.
