On tap at the brewpub. Pours a deep amber colored body with a bit of an orange hue. Finger-width, creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is rich caramels with some wood, hints of molasses, and a nice rum note. Touches of toast and a light fruitiness. Flavor is similar. Rich caramels with a bit more of a molasses sweetness, wood, some vanilla, and a nice rum note. The rum gives off a slight fruitiness and really adds a nice complexity to the rich caramels. Finishes dry and somewhat woody with a deeper caramel, some toast, a light woody spice, and a pleasant rum note. Just barely a hint of alcohol warmth before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Fuller, somewhat sticky body with a creamy, light carbonation. Overall, this is pretty impressive. The rum barrel adds a nice complexity to the big caramel malts without overpowering the base. Really well done anniversary beer. HighWine (959) - Whalezbro, Illinois, USA - MAY 17, 2013
Tap in a snifter at Village Tap during CCBW. Hard to we in the dark beer garden, but it appears to be a dark apricot color with a off white head that reduced to a film with a ring around the glass. Given a swirl, the head leaves speckles of lace on the glass. Copper penny and apple brandy aroma. Taste is sugar cane, rum, and beet sugar. Tropical fou fou barley wine? No, but it’s tasty. Sweet for sure, but not too much. I’m a little surprised at how take this is for the high ABV and a beer that is suposedly designed to age. Very drinkable now. Curious how it will age. I have a bottle and am now perplexed if I should sit on it. Look for this at an upcoming bottle share, I think... daknole (11050) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUN 27, 2013
Light toffee colored pour, light brownish/yellow head. Flavor of brown sugar, burned sugar, raisins, light hops. Good brew. douglas88 (9570) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 30, 2013
Bomber drank whilst watching the final BSG episode. Awesome! Frack me. Anyway, pours a deep ruby hue with a small white head. A big fruity nose with some chocolate and light barrel. The flavor combines big sweet berries, molasses and caramel and sweeter rum and heat. A bit warm but flavorful and nice. A decadent treat. Bottle. Pours barley wine brown. Lots of rum on this, boozy for sure. Sweet caramel with the booze makes this work, but it might be a bit too boozy.

Bottle. Pours hazy brown with a tan head. Aroma of wood, spices, caramel, general boozy. Nice body and good flavor. crossovert (13724) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 20, 2013
650bl bottle purchased at he recommendation of my boss. Pour is a brownish red, not the most inviting beer in appearance. Smell is rum, pears, oak, caramel, and perfumey booze. Flavor is more of the same. A super-malty barleywine with a boozy, oaky rum tone. I like it as a sweet beer. Burning alcoholic palate which I like. Sample at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013: The beer pours a hazy mahogany color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Boozy aroma with malt and vanilla notes. Full, syrupy body with flavors of earthy malt, rum and wood. The finish is sweet with a rum and oak aftertaste. Pretty good overall. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - MAY 20, 2013
Thanks to the kind soul who shared this at a recent Tampa Weekly Tasting. Pours a hazy copper with a white head. Nose is wood, rum, booze, dates, plums, sugar, and hints of molasses. Flavor is similar: wood, rum, dates, plums, booze, sugar and lots of nice barleywine flavors. beernbourbon (1600) - Glendale, Arizona, USA - MAY 21, 2013
Bottle shared by Brandon, thanks! Pour is dirty brown with a thin tan head. Aroma and flavor is really sweet and malty. The rum really comes through and is a little abrasive. Smooths out as it warms. Sweet and hot. Nice beer.
