Had on tap at Bad Apple, got the last of it as the keg kicked. Served in a New Holland High Gravity Series flute.
A: Pours a solid jet black, very opaque, with a 2 finger, thick-looking head. The retention is very solid and leaves some sticky lace down the whole glass.
S: Wow, what a smell. It smells like a decedant chocolate cake sitting in a Woodford Reserve barrel. The bourbon is integrated beautifully into a mix of mocha, milk chocolate, vanilla and caramel. Very good.
T: Well this is sort of a let down. The bourbon is there, but just barely. There is a slight charred oak presence, but it’s masked by an oaty malt with a touch roast and a little chocolate.
M: Medium bodied, but a tad thin. I’m sure the barrel made it slightly thinner since this style is already a tad thin. The carbonation is nice as it’s about a medium level. The finish is a subtle vanilla sweetness.
O:The smell is amazing on the brew, but the barrel doesn’t really come through in taste and the flavors aren’t as rich as the nose was. Still a very nice beer, but if they can match the nose to the taste and maybe give the body a little body this beer would be out of this world.

10oz pour @ Revolution. Pour is black with a small cream head. Lots of sweet bourbon taste with roasted notes on the nose and with some additions of light chocolate and coffee. Sweet chocolate in the flavor, some moderate bitterness but nothing big or over the top. Not bad

Pours murky brown-black with thin mocha head that lingers in a ring around the outside leaving nice bits of lace. Best-smelling barrel-aged beer from Revolution; doesn’t smell like booze fumes like so many of their other barrel-aged beers do. Rich layers of wood/oak, vanilla, toffee, roasted grain, a touch of raisin, all the good stuff you want in a bourbon-barrel stout. Flavor replicates all of that, plus a tiny dose of honey. Finishes with a creamy thick palate. This is probably the best beer Revolution has made yet, which is a nice break from the string of near-misses they seemed to have put out lately.
On tap at the brewpub. Black with thin tan head. Aroma sweet bourbon. Taste dominated by the bourbon in a good way with some roast, oatmeal, slight oak and caramel. Finish slight hops. Palate a tad thin but OK for a sweet stout. Alcohol apparent with a burn on the finish.

Very well done bourbon barrel aged beer, wish I lived closer and could drink this more often
5oz sample at the brewery. Jet black with a chocolate milk colored head that thins to a dark tan ring. Minimal carbonation. Aroma is the Woodford Reserve barrel that housed it for 9 months. Toasted chestnut, almond, vanilla bean, and bourbon soaked oak come through in the nose. The flavor is very bourbon forward with the roastiness of the stout taking a backseat. It’s not as sweet as the nose but the vanilla bean and chestnut do shine through. The hops keep it together and it’s only mildly boozy. I’m ready to classify this as another fpgreat beer from Revolution Brewing but am cautious that the time spent in the Woodford Barrel isn’t overly influencing this bourbon drinker. had this on tap at revolution. Poured into a snifter with a dark and small frothy head
very powerful aromas and showing off the whiskey barrels used. Has a port-like aroma to it with dark chocolate, raisins, and lots of malt aromas
full bodied but showing off some booziness to it. The flavors are alcohol dominated along with some dark chocolate and raisins

A dark brown stout with a thick lacing brown head. In aroma, nice vinous chocolate aroma, with smooth treacle, dark fruits,herbal hops, very nice. In mouth, a nice and smooth sweet vinous malt with vanilla beans, licorice, nice and smooth. On tap at brewpub, Nov. 11 2011.
