In November of 2010, we filled 1 Jack Daniels and 1 Heaven Hill Rye Whiskey barrel with our Barleywine (Institutionalized). The combination of these two unique barrels yield a very rich and complex finished product. Deep aromas and flavors of dark stone fruits, bourbon, molasses, toasted coconut and vanilla come in waves as you swirl this beer in the snifter.

Future releases, especially the first bottle release saw this offering aged exclusively in Woodford Reserve barrels. This is noted for the 2012 December Release, but will not be seperated out.

Dec 2012 bottle. Pours a hazy amber color with a foamy white head that doesn’t leave great lacing. Aroma is very bourbon oak forward with a sweet toffee notes as well. Flavor is very delicious bourbon but you are still able to pick out the sweet caramel, dark fruits, and malt notes. The end is very astringent with bourbon notes almost as if this is more than 13%. Mouthfeel is sweet full and carbonation is average. Overall this is an absolutely delicious beer that I would buy any time.

A little syrupy, and a little bit of mess like my sister’s room. Some roast, lots of caramel and boiled down malt. Dark brown with decent head and lacing. Sweet finish with lots of booze. Tap at Savor.

On tap at Goodnight Irene’s in Wildwood, NJ. Pours translucent brown with no head. Big sweet boozy nose hints at brown sugar and whiskey. Flavor is intense with more booze and dark sugar. Hints of vanilla, oak, bourbon and pecan. Big warming alcohol in finish.

Draft pour at Savor: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience 2017. As Revolution Straight Jacket. Poured a murky brown color, ruby edges. Tan head. Aroma was juicy citrus. Flavor had a lot of brown sugar notes, light molasses. Woody notes. Alcohol is there, but it’s pretty well hidden.

Nose is near perfection. Taste is the same. Sweet carmel some pecan candy and pecan pie flavors. Amazing! That is the only way to describe this. Balanced and perfect. Lasting head. on back of tongue get more vanilla barrel forward flavors. AWESOME!

Hazy dark amber color with tan head. Aroma has really nice bourbon, butterscotch, caramel and a bit of burned sugar. Taste starts with sweet bourbon, some dried dates, brown sugar, quite complex, tasty, not overpowering in any way. Syrupy body, low carbonation. Overall it’s a great barleywine with a really nice bourbon flavor.

Bottle shared at a tasting. Dark caramel pour, semi-hazy, with a tan head. Notes of sweet bourbon, caramel, sweet raspberry and prune jam, dried fruit, whiskey. Nicely balanced, the flavour unfolding as you drink. A great barley wine.

This draft brew from a beer bar was served at a cool temperature and poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized brown colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind no visible carbonation semi-opaque dark ruby red brown colored body and a very good lacing. The mild aroma was vinous malty and alcohol. The smooth thick mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering vinous aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of brown sugar semi-sweet roasted malt and mild hops. A wonderful best in class brew.

Draught @ Malt and Mold. Murky dark brown with small frothy beige head, woodsy aroma, low carbonation, slightly sweet woodsy malt taste with molasses, smooth body, long woodsy finish. Very well covered alcohol content and great, smooth palate.

Tmoney99 (14494) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 8, 2017
Tap. Poured a dark ruby color with an average frothy tan head that lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, dark fruit and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted malt, dark fruit sweet flavor with a heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is standout beer.
