Draft at Revolution (Milwaukee Ave). Clear auburn. Fine ring of sustained foam. Pleasant nose of cookie, smoked hay, maple sugar and hints of pecan and toffee. Soft and fluffy mouthfeel. Richly smoky and lushly bready, with toffee-drizzled nuts softened by the chewy and texture-rich bounce of new-mown hay. Succulent splash of ripe plum - skin, flesh and all - provides contrast while supporting the wonderfully buoyant malt. Gently browned biscuits poke out from the refined and deceptively complex grain. Cleanly fermented and stellar balance from start to finish. Nutty firmness augments the pleasingly lean body. A peppery zing and light starches are dotted with ripe peach and ongoing plum puree. Smoked hay, grassy hops and the subtle grip of minerals grace the cohesive finish. A pretty nice rendition from Revolution. Perhaps a tad fruity, with the hops and esters detracting from the ultra polished and refined malt, but zero complaints here as a whole. Terrific balance, unpretentious, and quite clean.

Draft to taster at Revolution. Pours a slightly hazy deep amber golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor had a bunch of smoked malt, meaty, charred wood, caramel, toasted malts, but this had more smoked character than I would have guessed. pablo951 (695) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 9, 2015
The aroma matched the name. this is seriously smokey, it’s like liquid smoke. Pours a clear deep amber hue with a thin head. Very bitter with a sour finish, eh. It an average ale.

Pour on tap at the brewery, dark orange-red pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of big smoke, bacon, meaty note into a bit of bread, toast, some ash but not bad into a bit of caramel, tobacco and leather notes peek out. Taste was a mix of tobacco, leather, bacon into smoky, campfire, and woody notes with a hint of caramel, bread, finishing smoky, slightly sweet. nimbleprop (9022) - SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA - NOV 6, 2014
5oz pour at the Revolution brew pub pours a dark gold with a ring of white head. Nose has quite a bit of smoked and toasted malts, barbecue, some wood shavings, a little sooty. Flavor follows, soot, a little beech wood, tanned leather, straw, a little burnt chaff. Clean finish. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - OCT 28, 2014
On draft at the Brewpub. Pours a copper amber color with a thick white head. Aroma of smoke, caramel sweetness. Mild barbecue and meat notes. Flavor has moderate smokiness, subtle sweetness.
