COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A play on Josh’s name, this Russian imperial stout is aged in four different types of bourbon barrels (Old Fitzgerald, Old Forester, Elijah Craig, and Evan Williams), then blended for the resulting thick and dark brew. If you had a chance to taste Alderaan, this is the aged version.

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2013 I don?t get much aroma but the flavor is huge. Chocolate, cherries and bourbon. It?s like dessert in a glass. Becomes a little bitter as it warms. I preferred it on the cool side. I?ve never had anything like it. Outstanding!

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 6/20/2015. Listed as 13.5% on the label. Pours dense opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, fudge, and herbal; with lighter notes of raisin, licorice, smoke, charcoal, coconut, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Some increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, fudge, and herbal; with lighter notes of raisin, licorice, smoke, charcoal, coconut, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness; with some bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, fudge, light licorice/dark fruit, herbal and roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness or astringent roast character after the finish. Light dryness from roast/hop bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and fairly sticky/chalky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden; a small pleasant warmth with minimal barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding barrel aged Russian imperial stout. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Spot on style character with outstanding barrel balance. Never overpowering, drying, or boozy on the bourbon/oak tannins. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bomber bottled a year ago pours an opaque dark brown with a small tan head that leaves no lacing. Aroma is full of vanilla and oak, with some dark fruits and licorice. Taste is sweet and boozy all the way through. Body is medium to full with very slight carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. This one must be sipped. I’ve never met a barrel-aged imperial stout I didn’t like, but the pricetag, the fancy box and the marketing hype on this one heightened my expectations. I like the puns in the name, and love what Revolution brewing has done, but I’d like this one better if it came out of a less expensive can (like 1Zenuff or Unsessionable). The upside of a $17 bomber is that no one else bought this bottle from my SouthSide liquor store for a year, so I got the advantage of aging straight off the shelf.

Bottle courtesy of Hackobock. Pours oily black with a small mocha head that doesnt leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is heavy malty with roasted malty, sweet dark bread, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, plums in brandy, moist soil, ash and bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter and malty. Mouthfeel is thick, round, roasted astringent, slightly boozy and near full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, thick bitter chocolate and bourbon. Fat without turning vulgar. Tasty barrel presence. Yum...

22oz bomber pours oily dark black with half finger brown head. Awesome nose with rich brownie, vanilla, bourbon, marshmallow, spice and oak. Taste is similar with chewy sweet brownie batter, rich chocolate, char and roast, coffee, oaky vanilla. Finishes semi sweet, roasty char, super well done barrel treatment, Hershey and brownie with some boozy bourbon fruit and spice. Not much can approach BCBS for me but this is damn close. Fantastic.
