had this from tap. Pours a nice dark red color with about a 1in head.
malt based nose with tones of grains and spice tones. While its not the most complex nose, it works well
medium bodied with more of a pronounced spice flavor with good depth and a real good feel to back it up
a good dunkel. well balanced with a nice malty side to it. Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - SEP 16, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy, deep auburn-amber colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is a bit grainy with a subtle wheat malt sweetness that is somewhat fruity. A crisper yeast and a lightly sweetened raisin bread along with some apple, a subtle banana, and a very soft spicing. Flavor is similar. A bit more banana up front, but it blends well with slightly richer wheat malts that are lightly sweetened alongside a light raisin bread and some grains. A tad bit yeasty as a light spice comes in and balances throughout. Wheat grows a bit towards the end along with the light, richer malts before this finishes very clean and smooth with a light, grainy, touch of grass and spice bitterness that mixes very nicely with the malts and leaves a fairly lengthy aftertaste with the wheat and even some dark fruits showing up. Medium, very smooth and clean body with a moderate carbonation. Overall, a somewhat subtle, but very smooth, clean, and enjoyable dunkel. Really nice, lightly sweetened malt richness with a pleasant blend of fruits and light spices. Nothing crazy, but very well done. NobleSquirrel (3438) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 15, 2011
Draft at Revolution. Pours a hazy copper brown with a fluffy offwhite head. The nose is nice, brown sugar and banana. Some light cloves and spice. Not a ton of bready notes, but a pretty nice fermentation character overall. On tasting, more banana bread with a spicy note. The phenols aren’t overwhelming. Pretty light and refreshing overall and well made, far better made than the hefeweizen was. Solid overall, just not my favorite style. andyhwcinc (1884) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 30, 2011
Enjoyed on tap at Revolution Brewery in Chicago, IL with some friends prior to seeing the band F*ed Up. I didn’t take tasting notes, but from what I remember this looked really nice in the glass, dark amber with a rich head in a weiss glass. Aroma was a bit faint, but definite malt presence. The one thing that stuck out for me was that this one had an apricot flavor, which could’ve been an off-flavor, definitely ester-y and yeasty. It was still good, just tasted like it may have come from the bottom of the keg. drdisque (840) - Illinois, USA - OCT 1, 2011
Little aroma - pours normal dunkelweizen color. Fairly sweet. Flavor or lightly roasted grain with a fair amount of sweetness. Little bit of fruitiness. Pretty good.

Draft @ Rev. Pours hazy brown with a thick off white head. Aroma of banana, clove. Decent spice - sort of reminded me of a similar Piece beer. Light and refreshing, pretty well done.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2011 aroma is light caramel, not overwhelmingly sweet, some nuttiness. a handful of fleeting esters, at best. largely neutral, clean scent. appearance is ruby/deep mahogany, well polished. flavor is caramel, excellent crunch, nuttiness to boot comes in bounds. still no sign of weizen yeast. nuplastikk (6289) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 19, 2012
Hazy orange-brown. Soapy, steady beige head. Chocolate banana aroma, similar taste. Mild and refreshing. Watery sweet finish. OK, true to style, but lacks much depth. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - SEP 18, 2011
Full draft at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice brownish copper pour, fairly murky, with a frothy whitish layer that laces ok. Aromas are sticky toast, some banana, brown sugar, and toffee. Some cocoa, toast, and biscuits. Estery banana sticks out. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied with toast, dry malts, touches of light biscuits, some dough, light estery banana. Dry, moving towards some toast, bread dough, biscuits. Fairly dry with a light very subtle fruity character in taste. Finish throws a touch of spicy yeastiness, bread dough, biscuits. Not bad, lacks some character, forgettable. A solid Dunkel, but nothing to write home about. Some caramel and toast stick out, but lighter. Solid Dunkel I guess, better than the BA Institution.. It didn’t stand out, but it was thoroughly drinkable. Well made, I guess is a good monniker. Tmoney99 (14492) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 17, 2011
Draft sample. Poured hazy brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted dark malt aroma. Medium body with a oily smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium dark sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.
