COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

StormCoat (123) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 16, 2015
Picked up a 12oz can at Fresh Thyme market in Cincinnati, Ohio, and poured it into a tulip glass. Pours dark, translucent brown—almost black—with fluffy tan head. Aromas are very sweet, like brown sugar and dates. Flavors carry a lot of vanilla and chocolatey notes, and taper off with coffee and a wood-smokey aftertaste. Medium-bodied, drinkable...not heavy at all. Very good.

Revolution Eugene porter is a decent if on the thin side porter. Nose is of chocolate and good roasted nuts. Taste is a full mellow of roasted malt goodness with a plethora of hazelnut and chestnut notes. A very decent porter.

Can. An almost black one, topped by a small, dense light beige head. There’s coffee, dark chocolate and some brown sugar in the aroma. Hints of dried fruits too. It’s full bodied and smooth on the palate, semi dry and pleasantly carbonated. Brown sugar, prunes, some roasted malts and mocha. Some vanilla hints. Lasting finish. Very smooth and tasteful, well worth a revisit. 150207

Can from Sake Taniguchi (World Beer Market). Chocolate, roast malt, vanilla, light berries. Thick dark brown color, some tan lacing. Roasty initial, brown sugar, vanilla and light wood, sweetened coffee, and final extra twist of vanilla. Medium body, a little creamy. Pleasant and rather fruity for a porter. Really like that mid and final bit of vanilla.

Canned January 13, 2015.
Glass: New Belgium globe.
Appearance: Black body with a persistent frothy tan head.
Aroma: Aroma leans a bit fruity, perhaps oxidation, with some creamer aromas and a mixed malt aroma that gives a light savory sweetness to it.
Taste: Tastes a bit oxidized with milk chocolate and a dark chocolate finish. Not awful, but far fruitier than other porters I’ve had.
Palate: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: Pretty mediocre porter imo. It is far too fruity and lacking any richness I get out of Founders Porter, Eddie Fitz or Black Butte.
