Slightly old rating. Pours gold with a white head. Caramel aroma with some herbal hops. Not a huge fans of ESB, but this was okay. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - FEB 9, 2013
Draft on tap at the Milwaukee Brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a richly deep amber pour, darker, a touch of haze but near transparent. Rich deep glow throughout, a frothy offwhite head dies to a nice film, laces ok. Aromas are toasty and biscuity, mellow caramel, toffee grow. Firm biscuit, gentle earthy hops. A bit sweet for me. Initial is a bit more manageable,s weet sticky toffee, toast, gentle vanilla. Some biscuits, pretzels, bready malts. Gentle dry floral, earthy hops. Some lemon, flowers, touch of grass. No spice, a bit sweet and thicker in the middle. The hop presence still stays firm, but the beer seems to big for it’s britches. Malty, a touch thick, but still with a bigger ABV. Touches of oranges, gentle dryness pick up as I get further in. Overall, I get what they did here. But it’s a bit too big and sweet to hold water for me. The hop presence is still firm, the progression for style works too. But, it’s just not my thing compared to a smaller beer with a similar hopping. Ok. Draft at Kedzie. pours a clear deep gold with a copper slant. Nose is moderately sweet and herbal. Caramel and toast. Clean fermentation overall, faint fruity note. On tasting, big caramel note. Herbal hops with a medium bitterness. Dry finish. Solid beer just not a style I much care for anymore. Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - JAN 24, 2013
On tap at the Kedzie brewery. Pours a clear, copper-gold colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet caramels with some distinct crystal notes, touches of toffee, and a good amount of fruity hops giving off some sweeter florals. Flavor is similar. Some caramel and crystal, touches of toffee, and a good amount of fruity, sweeter florals. Finishes dry with a medium-light bitterness and on the sweeter side. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium-light body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, this wasn’t really my kind of ESB. Not cloying at all, in fact very easy to drink, but the hops give off a bit too much of a fruity sweetness for my liking. Eh. kaser (6364) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 21, 2013
Poured from draft at Revolution brewery. Carmel and sweet taste. Dark pour. Reddish? Malty and thick palate. Decent beer although not my style

On draft at Kedzie brewery’s tap room. Pours a medium brown with small white head and average lacing. This one is advertised as having a higher ABV than usual for the style, to keep us warn in the winter. Aroma is not strong, but has bready malts, some nuts, Body is medium with slight carbonation. Taste is only slightly bitter with a chalky dry finish. This one was OK but did not wow me.
