On tap at Essen House. Pours a deep gold with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of rye and caramel with toffee and sweet grains backing. Tap. Poured clear dark brown with a moderate frothy tan head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, spice, wood with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy complex sweet flavor with a medium to heavy complex sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid brew.

From notes. Had in line while waiting for order forms at Dark Horse for the 4 Elf Party on December 9. 22 oz bottle. The pour is a clear-ish coppery orange color with a thin light tan ring of head that vanishes pretty quickly without any lace. The aroma is good. There is a spicy rye right up front with a lot of caramel and a decent maltiness. The barrel is pretty strong and there is a hint of vanilla. The flavor is a little better, because it’s more balanced. The toffee, light vanilla, good barrel, nice spicy rye, and a good charred oak really balance out nicely. Shared bomber poured to my snifter showing a cloudy, brownish amber color, with a modest layer of off white head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose was sweet caramel, toffee, treacle, some spiciness, and alcohol at the ready. Medium bodied, with low carbonation, continued sweetness, a combination of barrel astringency and light tartness, and hefty, whiskey-like booziness. Warming and Barleywine-ish.
