September 20, 2015 - at Craft (Clerkenwell) on Waiting For Garthicus Day. Handpull cask. Inky brown-black opaque pour, smallish tan head - some legs. Light treacle/deep roast aroma - not much specific coffee or chocolate, just ... roast; some fruitiness. Taste actually reminded me a bit of ink, some tar, light coffee and moderate alcohol - like an imperial porter - thankfully not that sweet, just middling roast. Dark, toasted malts, filter coffee, cacao, charcoal. Very, dark brown, small, creamy, beige head. Light bitter. Chocolate, dark, toasted malts, soft carbonation, medium bodied, bitter finish. Cask at The Derby Winter Ales Festival, Feb. 17, 2017. Dark brown with a frothy beige head. Sweet milk chocolate, vanilla and nuts on the nose. Oily texture, medium body. Sweet at the start, with strong liquorice and milk chocolate. Mild bitterness toward the middle, with dark cocoa over rum fruit. Finishes a bit on the sour side, exidized coffee. Cask at the Queens Head, Kings Cross. Sooty black with a loose tan head; aroma of richly roasted malts with some chocolate; dry and sharply bitter, with lots of roasted malts and some coffee grounds; then a gentle warmth to finish. Very moreish.

Tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival on the 23rd April 2015. Cask, gravity dispense. Black ruby in colour with a thin creamy buff head. Strong malty aroma with notes of Ribena fruit present in the nose. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts deliver a complex maltloaf base with juicy fruit notes of Victoria plum, blueberry and bramble present in the mouth. There is a dry grassy note to the hop resins present in the bitter aftertaste which quickly fades away into the malt element. Finish is malty with plum fruit still evident on the palate along with a drier, plain chocolate flavour as well. Appearance - opaque black with a thin crema head.
Nose - dark chocolate with a tangy sauce thing too.
Taste - more of the same same. Complex and interesting.
Palate - medium bodied with an oily texture and a dry salty finish.

500ml bottle thanks to Ashton McCobb. Pours near black, thin tan head. Aromas are chocolate, coffee. Taste is soy sauce, chocolate. Slightly metallic finish.
