Draft at Rhinegeist in June 2014 from notes. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor have a nice amount of resiny, and grapefruit citrus hops, grass, moderate bitterness, some underlying pale toasted malt, a touch grainy, decent APA.

Crowler... Clear amber pour with a dirty-orange tint and a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. The aroma is both peppery and fruity - grapefruit and a medley of tropical fruits- accompanied by a hint of vanilla. Full-bodied with a thin mouthfeel and tickling carbonation. The flavor is nicely bittered with citrus rinds and musky hops. Lengthy, bitter, raspy finish. Bottle courtesy of landhoney!

Draft sample clear light yellow Nose grass, fruit, mostly resin, crisp. Taste bitter mixed with citrus up front. Mid palate continues with the bitter. Later a touch of grainy malt, more in the aftertaste. I like the new hop.

Sample at The Ohio Taproom. This brew is a clear golden color with a medium white head that diminishes quickly to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, fruit and malt. Light-bodied with flavors of resiny hops, grapefruit and toasted malt. The finish is mildly bitter with an herbal hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Experimental hops with Pilsener malt. Aroma is nice with hints of floral, citrusy hops. Clear golden color. Taste is light pils malt upfront with some floral and citrus hops on the follow-through. Palate is standard for a pale ale or pilsener. Overall this is a nice Pale/Pils hybrid. More interesting than the Puma Pils. Too bad this will be a one and done run. I would buy this one frequently if offered.

Draft: pours a light yellow with a white head. Aromas are peppery and fruity. The taste is sublime... Peaches, grapefruit and more of the pepper... This is very good.

6oz on tap at the brewery. Clear golden color. Thin white head. Nice pilsener malt nose. Medium body. Smooth, light soft, kind of crisp lighter carbonation. Light dry finish. Perfect amount of citrus hop. Mild bready, very light peppery malt. Much more easy-drinking, crisp, and refreshing than the Rhinegeist Rookie I just tasted. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Tasty, interesting, refreshing way to do a pale ale.

phaleslu (10553) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUN 26, 2014
Draft at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with a small white head that leaves some arcs and spots of lace on the glass. Has a really oily, resinous hop character- fairly aggressive, and doesn’t feign any malt balance. Grapefruit peel bitterness, with only minor sweet and pale malts. Hints of pine and herbs. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a bitter, coating mouthfeel that lingers. I’m liking these single-hop APA experiments.

Tap sample. Poured clear amber hue with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Medium aroma of citrus and resin hops. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Well balanced flavor of hops with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This is a solid drinkable brew.

Draft to taster at Rhinegeist. Looks solid; a transparent light gold with white lacing. Smells of juicy hops with a mildly sweet pale malt backbone. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel that’s lighter for the style. A solid APA.
