Bottle from Aficionados Columbus. Pours a deep inky black with a tan head. Nose is roast, earth, mild ash, vanilla, bourbon, and baker’s chocolate. Flavor is similar with ash, roast, earth, vanilla, bourbon, mild booze, cocoa, baker’s chocolate, and some lingering and mildly boozy bourbon. Medium in body and delightful.

On tap at BC’s. Pours pitch black with a light brown head. Good lacing. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt. Taste is bourbon up front, roasted malt/coffee in the middle, with a vanilla ending. Medium to full body with creamy/oily mouthfeel. I usually don’t care for Rhinegeist beers, but this one was exceptional. I will seek this one again.

Bomber, RBSG grand tasting. Great bourbon aroma, vapory with chocolate, vanilla, oak. Licorice. Black-brown clear with thin tan head. Medium heavy body with vigorous carbonation. Alcohol warming. Starts sweet and stays that way, with tons of malty sweetness. coffee and licorice, bourbon and vanilla, and alcohol sweet-warming. Woody-astringent bitter finish with lingering bourbon barrel after.

From notes. This was shared at Doug’s Poker/Beer/Cigar party on February 13. The 22 oz bottle pours a very dark brown with a thin lighter tan head that falls to a ring leaving no lace behind. The aroma is pretty damn good. There is a good roasted malt, some dark chocolate and a light brown sugar on the front end. The back end brings up a lot more bourbon and a strong heat. There is a touch of vanilla on the back end, but it’s hard to decipher with the bourbon. The flavors are also good. There is a large bourbon presence up front with a light chocolate and good roasted malt behind it. The vanilla is light, but present, and the barrel itself is more detectable in the flavor. The mouth feel is a little lighter, but the carbonation is spot on. It’s soft and velvety and leaves a creamy feel throughout. The aftertaste is lingeringly hot and chocolatey, which isn’t a bad thing by any means. This is so much better than the sherry barrel.

draft that poured almost black and mocha colored head. now the original ink I thought lacked in depth and flavor but this barrel aged one is much nicer. the nose is deep in roasted malts, chocolate and coffee topping it off with bourbon, oak and vanilla notes. the flavor is rich and thick. nice balance of the roasted malts, coffee and chocolate to the bourbon and oak. really liked this one. hats off guys.
