COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed to celebrate our third orbit around the sun, we’re charting tarter territory with Trips. This sour ale features the addition (during fermentation) of sour cherries and currants for a maelstrom of fruit and sour power. Trips is neon pink, sour, and hypnotic.

I thought this was a pretty solid sour, a little more sweet than sour and the cherry flavor didn’t come to the forefront like I hoped/expected. But it’s by no means a throwaway brew and def worth a try if you run across it.

This might not be Rhinegiests best offering but it admirably serves as a celebration of three years of production. I have never though of them of as a master of the style so they get plenty of credit for trying. I look forward to being able to revisit the tasting room again in the near future to see what else they are up to.

Aroma / Appearance - A pinkish candy colored head bubbles as the head melts away in seconds. Semisweet floral notes tickle the air with a clean bouquet. Strawberries are most evident though other notes emerge in time.

Flavor / Palate - Strawberries, light tartness, and aspects of fruit refresh the palate. Akin to a slightly less abrasive New Glarus Strawberry Rhubarb it doesnt have the same staying power. The sweet finish could be better executed. Overall though the total package delivers. I cant wait to see what Year Four brings.

Bottle thanks to Brandon. Pours a hazy orange ruby with medium off white head that lasts. The aroma is cherry, funk, currant, earth. Thin body, vinegar, cherry, currants, crazy sour, good.

Wasn’t what I expected by the name but it was pretty good. Grew on me as I drank it.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 6/2016. Pours slightly hazy reddish/pinkish orange/light copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tart/sour cherry, raspberry, strawberry, currants, red grape, lemon, lime, green apple, hay, straw, grass, wheat, and cracker; with lighter notes of pepper, musty/leathery funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cherry/currants, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/sour cherry, raspberry, strawberry, currants, red grape, lemon, lime, green apple, hay, straw, grass, wheat, and cracker; with lighter notes of pepper, musty/leathery funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness and light yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, raspberry, strawberry, currants, red grape, lemon, lime, green apple, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, light funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cherry/currants, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/sourness balance, and zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from tart/sourness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately acidic/grainy, and fairly crisp balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7.5%. Overall this is a very nice fruity sour ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cherry/currants, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modest acidity. Very impressive sour/wild ale complexity; with nice fruit presence and balancing malts that never feel too sweet. A really enjoyable offering.

This is a pretty beer with red color and a pinkish head. Tart fruity nose. But the flavor was not to my liking. I’m not a sour beer fan, and this beer is all about the lacto. Some berry tartness bit the lacto fink ruins it for me. Kind of gross.

Sample at Daily Growler Powell on 8/20/16. Clear, cranberry red in color with a thick off-white head. Nose of funk, cherry and slight sourness. Malty and funky flavor with slight butteriness before a sour cherry finish.

Draft at Jungle Jims. Pours a slightly hazy reddish amber color with a small off white head that disappeared. The aroma and flavor have tart/sour dark fruit, cherries, berries, buttery toffee, caramel, hint of vinegar, ok but maybe a touch down hill.

Draft to pint at Jungle Jim pour cranberry with thin white head. Nose light funk, some cherry and grainy malt. Taste moderate tart bite up front, cherry, then hint of butter. Tart finish.

Prufrockstar (2259) - Moscow, Idaho, USA - AUG 26, 2016
Draft at Kroger. Lovely clear red/pink pour with slightly pink-tinged head. Okay retention, no lacing. Tart berries, lots of sweetness cut by a big puckering sour. Herbal and sweaty backdrop. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Overall: nice.

Bottle pour. The beer is a clear red with a pink head of foam. The aroma has strong notes of cherry skins and some wood funk. Fruity and sour. Such a good beer. Hopefully I can find this again soon.
