3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Poured from a 500ml bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a dark red/amber colour with little to no head, and no lacing either.
Smells faintly alcoholic and malty.
Tastes of medium to dark malts and some nice fruity English hops. Well balanced out with a bit of booziness too.
Overall a nice drop.
On cask at the great western Cardiff decent esb. Copper with small staying head malt and hop combine well.

500ml bottle at home in Blaendulais as ’Rhymney Export’, 5.0%, BB Oct 2017. Not many beers describe themselves as ’toothsome’ these days. Dark amber, still and translucent, foamy off-white head, streaky lacing. Aroma is toasted teacake, rich malts, cakey, a little gluey. Body is a bit frothy, soft carbonation. Taste has more rich malt, teacake, some nutmeg, dry finish, lightly yeasty, touch of apple peel, lingering bitterness. Quite good for an old school ESB costing £1.50. A mid copper coloured beer with a thick off white head. A dusty malt aroma, nutty and a touch of spice which brings in a hint of hop. Dry mouthfeel. The taste starts off dry, malty and nutty, the woody, vanilla spice then comes in. This is then followed by a tart, pithy citrus fruit peel, slightly grassy hop flavour that lingers on into a lengthy finish. Bottle from Lidl, Fakenham. rauchbier (3926) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - OCT 25, 2015
Bottle, from Lidl. Golden brown, thin short lived white head and gentle condition. Sweet caramel and a gentle earthy hop note in the nose, full bodied in the mouth with an initial malty sweetness quickly balanced by a hoppy bitterness that develops into peppery spice, finish has a slight burnt toffee note and a little woodiness lingering

Dark amber ale with a malty aroma, toffee malt flavour with a malty hopped finish. A decent if unexceptionable traditional bitter. mike_77 (7018) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - OCT 21, 2015
Clear brown colour. Not much of an aroma. Mild malty flavour. Seems to lack some depth. Hippoman (646) - Durham, ENGLAND - OCT 6, 2015
Cask at The Water House (JDW), Durham, £2.05/pint.
Good looking reddish amber beer with a thick, creamy, cream coloured head that leaves good lacing on the glass. The aroma evokes dry leaves and damp wood, as well as maybe just a hint of citrus. The taste has plenty of bitterness with burnt caramel flavours as well as some marmalade and a little sweetness on the late palate. Smooth sipping, this was a decent, robust bitter that I quite enjoyed. SarkyNorthener (4765) - West Bromwich (Yorkshire Expat), West Midlands, ENGLAND - SEP 1, 2015
