A good porter, rich, somewhat sweet and tasty, but not something I’d drive to Richmond just to get. This was a typical porter, roasty, not too heavy and not too sweet.

chandler0201 (650) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 26, 2010
Dark pour with thin tan head which quickly dissipates. Chocolate aroma with hint of coffee. Flavor was more coffee and kind of bitter, with milk stout hints at the end. Decent.

JaBier (8396) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - JAN 15, 2010
Bottle sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective "From Russia With Suds" tasting on 1/2/10. Pours a clear light brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is roasty and a bit tart (infected?). Flavor is a bit roasty, but tastes more caramel than chocolate with some tartness in the finish.

Dogbrick (14344) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JAN 6, 2010
Sample at the "From Russia With Suds" tasting on 01/02/10: This brew pours brown with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing. Roasted malt aroma with fruity notes. Medium, dry body with flavors of caramel malt, roasted coffee and tart fruits. The finish is roasty with a short malty aftertaste. Overall this Porter is neither Big nor particularly Nasty, especially not in the way the brewer implies on the label.

Appearance: hazed brown with velvet grey , mid light top , fizzy centre.
Nose: Roasty with sweet cocoa , slight milky feel. Clean burnt barley aroma. Very nice. 7+
Flavor/Palate : Mid bodied. Brown malts , smooth clear with feel of chocolate. Bitter finish. Good character shown.

Cletus (6368) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 20, 2008
Bottle courtesy of dkachur/ Pours brown with a thin white head. Smells earthy with some mellow chocolatey hints. Tastes tarte with some malty hints. Not very good.

taffurs888 (124) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 12, 2008
Bottle courtesy of Mike Miller, thanks Mike. Smooth going down with a choclate, cofee taste, then the hops kick in. Decent beer. If it was a little fuller it would get my attention more.

SynergyXJ (510) - Blacksburg, Virginia, USA - JUL 21, 2008
Bottle, #388 Dark red pour, one of the lighter porters around, with a small head. Somewhat light aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Same with flavor. Pretty enjoyable overall.

Butters (4062) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JUN 18, 2008
Brown pour with small brown head from brewpub. Nutty, malty, with some caramel notes. Medium thin body, malty cloying finish. I do love the label though.
