Don’t be fooled into believing this is a real pale ale. Very bland, and slight hint of caramel flavouring but barely there. Metalchopz (3384) - Cantley, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 15, 2012
Originally rated July 2005. This Rickard’s Pale Ale pours a golden-brown colour with a slight off-white creamy head, that has good retention and leaves thick foam lacing around the glass. That is the best part. Nose is malty grain with hints of coffee... which is weird because this one is far from roasted malts or any of that found in porters and stouts. Cannot see any carbonation and mouthfeel is flat and creamy. The taste looks like it might start with some bitterness, but falls short, to then end on a mildly sweet finish. Notes of apples are found in the aftertaste. Not bad, but nothing close to a good American pale ale. mnurda (1285) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - AUG 22, 2011
On tap at the hard rock bar in Niagara Falls. Could be one of the worst tasting laes i have ever had. Couldnt come close to finishing the beer. sseb69 (1909) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 20, 2010
Bouteille 341 ml. 4.8%. Goûtée il y a longtemps. Jaune, mousse blanche. Rien qui sort de l’ordinaire. Bonne Spab (3844) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 28, 2010
On tap at the Air Canada Centre. Pours a clear light gold with moderate, lasting white head. Lots of fizz obvious in the glass (and in the mouth). Mild aroma of pale malt. Taste is a little more pronounced and has a light grassy bitterness. Better than most Molson products but not particuarly good.

Haha. This PALES in comparison to a real IPA. Get it? Lame humour is my strong suit. Clear YELLOW pour which only denotes an IPA if notorious amounts of hops are present, and this beer does not contain them. This is another Canadian faux IPA that is a pale lager in disguise. Points for somewhat tasty maltiness and a hint of hops that might, and I emphasize might bring this into an ale classification, if only slightly. I can’t even finish rating this properly. Light amber color with a quickly gone white head.Notes of floral hops. Taste water.!@\ with a touch of caramel . Did I say a touch? Let say a tiny touch. That’s all folks... checkmatei1 (765) - Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 23, 2009
Draft (in Niagra): Poured a golden color. This one reminded me of a macro pils, not much flavor. This was not a great beer. VertBaconStrips (2389) - Blerkablerka, VENEZUELA - JUN 6, 2009
Decent light gold (maybe trying to get to amber), with ok white head with retension at the skim level, tons of carbonation still going strong and some minor lacing on a slow turn of the glass. Aroma is 100% not IPA. And it’s very weak, with a slight skunk, but that’s probally poor ingredients. It doesn’t smell offensive. The flavour veers just as far with its watery dry bitterness...er, actually, there is no flavour - well, there is flavour, I just can’t taste it around that watery bitter taste/mouthfeel. It’s only enduring quality is that it doesn’t taste exactly like domestic swill, for better or for worse, the total lack of flavour, aroma and anything else might be a good thing. It is easy to drink though for a free swilling night. Drinkable, yes. IPA? This may as well be Rickard’s Stout. Never again. Total waste of money unless your life revolves around playing in the local softball league. Leave your IPA buying $$$ to any company that puts any sort of emphasis on pride in their product and a value on quality ingredients. Cirrhosis (1283) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 3, 2009
If your looking for a IPA this isn’t the beer you want if your looking for just a beer to drink on the patio, or while doing yard work this will do just fine. This brew pours crystal clear with a yellow to gold body, and is capped off with a very thick snow white head that lasted almost the entire beer. A sweet sent mostly malt, and just a touch of hops, overall the aroma was fairly week and hard to detect. The flavor has a nice clean malty taste and is very lightly hopped, the mouth feel is decent nice and crisp and a good amount of carbonation that tickles the tongue. If this beer was listed as a pale lager I would be giving the taste almost a perfect score but they tell me this is a IPA so it isn’t going to do so well. But I wonder is this what IPA’s started out tasting like crisp clean and just a touch of hops before American micro brews started putting massive amounts of hops in there recipes to try something new. But I got say this a very enjoyable beer to drink it’s just as a IPA its pretty week.
