"It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, of course - wrong place at the wrong time...but Claus was soon back on the street with the polite apologies of the authorities - no questions asked. All’s well that ends well, surely, but still, the reporters wanted to know...it takes its toll, doesnt’t it? "Indeed" sighed Claus, "my elf is going crazy, and I fear I shall soon go crazy as well" And with that he hoisted a great flagon of his favorite barleywine-style ale, silently contemplating the future and straining to remember why he got into this particular line of work in the first place. 500 ml bottle. More often then not I end up buying some of these cheesy Christmas beers, and this one I bought last weekend. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a mostly clear reddish/copper color with about a half inch light tan head that didn’t stay around for too long. The brew smells like raisins, bananas, caramel, dried fruit and a bit of sweet spiciness. It tastes like dried fruit, raisins, caramel, over-ripened bananas, plums, and apple/apple skins. The 10.5% ABV is hidden pretty well. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit creamy and coating with low/moderate carbonation. It’s OK overall, but not one of the better barleywines I’ve had. With that being said, it’s certainly worth a try at least once. $6.49 a bottle.

Bottle. Clear copper. Small fast ivory head. Small malty aroma. Strong and sweet. Banana, cyrup, plum. Not very balanced.

Kirkas, meripihkan kullanruskea. Tuoksussa kevyesti paahteista mallasta. Vähän spriitä. Vähän käyneitä hedelmiä. Maussa makeaa mallasta ja aika terävä alkoholi.

500ml bottle from Favourite Beers, Cheltenham. Deep gold colour with a thin head. Aroma has bug barley candy. The taste is deep and rich, sweet, and smooth. Not normally a fan of barley wine but this hits the mark.

Sample at a local tasting event. Amber body with a low head. Caramel, malt, wet wood and alcohol.

"Nutty aroma and flavor, with carmel and alcohol as the two main players. Slightly bitter, but hops are definitely in the background here. Its thin yet shows the abv, not the best combo, though it wasn’t a total waste. Just subpar for a barleywine."

Bottle. Clear orange with a medium sized diminishing off white head. Candy, golden raisins, figs, caramel, over ripe banana. Medium/full body, oily/sticky texture, medium/heavy sweet and bitter, medium alcohol presence, oily/syrupy texture, soft carbonation. I guess it’s a decent and fair priced barley wine.

caramel, banana, resin aromas from hazy golden amber body thin foamy white head. tastes yeasty quite sweet but with some alcoholic warmth. it would have been better at chrimbo rather than the middle of summer but i think its alright!

500ml bottle. Pours a fairly clear rich amber, with a medium off-white head, which lasts reasonably well and leaves a little lacing. The aroma, weirdly, is almost hefeweizen-like, dominated by yeasty banana notes, although some toffee and fruitcake hints sneak through. Spicy hops up front mix with sweetly spicy yeast. Plum pudding, butterscotch and warm alcohol appear in the mid-palate, with more banana yeast leading into a boozy fruitcake finish. It leaves a lingering hot alcohol feel. I’m not a big fan of this one. It has some good flavours in there, but it is far too yeast-dominated for a barleywine, and hides its 10.5% alcohol very poorly.

TheJestersBeer (2431) - SWEDEN - MAY 23, 2014
500ml bottle. Pours a deep amber, with a white head. Complex, malty, caramelly aroma, toffee, dried fruit, walnuts, almonds, lightly yeasty, hints of chocolate. Semi-sweet, full bodied, mid bitterness, creamy CO2. Malty, caramelly taste, hops, raisins, dried apricot, madeira, yeast. Quite rich, a real sipper. (2014-01-24)
