UPDATED: MAY 30, 2013 Wow...Had it on cask which is always a great way to drink an imperial stout. Dark and smooth with the typical imperial stout aftertaste

Bottle, 330 ml. Pours jet black with a thin sheen of light tan head and some substantial lacing. Nose is quite sweet - fudge, toffee, chocolate cake, cocoa powder, licorice, slight coffee and roasted malt, hint of booze. Taste of dense caramel/toffee, more cocoa powder, mocha, more prominent roasted malt, cognac, dark honey and dark fruits towards the end - again very sweet! Lingering honey and light bitterness. Body is light for a style (a medium otherwise), texture is smooth and silky, carbonation is practically nonexistent. Definitely unbalanced in favour of sweetness, but I liked it a fair bit.

Bottle. Chocolate fudge malt and dry hay aroma. Black with moderate tan head. Moderately sweet chocolate malt, and moderately bitter dry hay flavor. Good body. Tasty.

Bottle: Bubbly, cola-coloured, with a large tan head. Chocolate roast, coffee, vanilla aroma. Flavour is dark chocolate malt....coffee grounds, caramel malt....a hint of smoke. Slightly oily.....drinks lighter than expected....really nice.

Bottle pour at Shelton Brothers. Big roasty coffee, roasted malt, cacao nib and bakers chocolate everywhere. Lighter than I imagined on the palate. More roastiness, with some coffee and fainted charred wood. Cacao nib and toasted coffee on the finish. Nice enough, but maybe a touch too dry.

2015 bottle (Wine Down, Carnegie). Dark brown, 1 cm light tan head. Aroma of brioche, mocha, caramel, anise. 7+ Silky body is perhaps a little lighter than expected. Sweet at first but leans towards dry at the end with firm bitterness. Mocha, dark berries, toasted caramel. Coriander? Not all that roasty. No overt alcohol, surprisingly. Pretty good, old fashioned. Will age well.

Bottle at home. Pours almost black with hint of red. Tiny off-white head. Aroma is a little roasty with malts, chocolate, coffee, licorice and alcohol. Taste is quite dry and sweet roasted coffee and malts. Hints of chocolate, licorice and dried fruit. Aftertaste is boozy and quite hoppy for imperial. Pleasent beer but nothing special.

Hyvin tummanruskea, aavistuksen punertava olut kohtalaisella beigell vaahdolla, joka jtt reilusti pitsi. Tuoksu paahteinen ja kahvinen. Maussa ennen kaikkea kahvia ja suolaista paahteisuutta sek salmiakkia ja lakritsaista makeutta tasapainottamassa kokonaisuutta. Loppupuolella jonkin verran katkeruutta ja kitkerhk kahvisuutta. Varsin tytelinen suutuntuma. Hiilihappoja melko reilusti. Ei tm lajinsa parhaimmistoon nouse, mutta ihan nautittava olut.
