Imperial Red Ale
"My goodness", muttered Claus, recalling his visit to the Institute, "the restrictive outerwear, the padded room-even padded Christmas tree ornaments. Horrifying! Yet the little chap seems happier than hes ever been" Claus took a thoughtful sip of a most warming red ale. "Perhaps sanity is over-rated...Ho,Ho,Ho!"

Reddish brown body and very small head. Very punchy, strong fermentation aromas, fruits, concentrated sugar. Very sweet, luscious, delicious too. Overdone and I an loving it. (33cl bottle from Saveur Bire)

Bouche trs sucre, bonbon, bois, banane. Surprenant mais pas fabuleux...

11.2 ounce bottle, 2013 vintage, label stamp says best before 16 09 23. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a clear orange/amber color with maybe a quarter inch off-white head that didnt stay around for very long. Theres a decent amount of lacing. The aroma starts off boozy, with some toffee, candied oranges, stone fruit and some caramel malt noticeable. The taste is mainly sweet and boozy, it tastes like dried fruit (stone fruit and dark fruit), booze, and bready malt. The booziness just seems worse the longer I drink this, and unfortunately so does the overall flavor of this brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium, its syrupy and coating with moderate carbonation. This isnt bad, but it wasnt exactly good either. Maybe it needs more age on it, who knows. Its worth trying once, but I likely wouldnt buy this again.

This seems to be sold as something of a novelty but what do I know. It is orange w/ a small head. Its nose is kind of spicy, fruity w/ a touch of ginger and pear. It is a bit piny and very sweet and quite heavy across the palate. I wouldnt say this is horrible but I do not honestly see myself ever drinking it again intentionally.

Bottle from the Bottle Bank. Appearance - amber with a thin head. Nose - rich orange but the malt in the background has just a hint of cardboard coming from it - all the same, inviting. Taste - orange blossom honey. Palate - rich and full bodied with a big rich texture and and sweet but still fairly balanced finish. Overall - its a big beast and its enjoyable.

11/7/2012. From bottle. Light orange color with a white head. Sweet boozy aromas with caramel, dried fruit and yeast. Sweet, sticky flavors, oily texture, boozy and out of balance.

Barley Wine? The label says English Red Ale. Anyway pours a dirty gold with no head what so ever. Aroma is super sweet reminds me of a Belgian ale. Taste, malty sweetness, caramel maybe. The booze is hidden well, Overall not to bad, I think it might be miss styled here as a barley wine when it is an ale.
