UPDATED: JAN 16, 2013 Very sweet and round malty smell. Pours a very nice redish brown(Christmas) colour, allmost no foam. Not very special taste, bitter taste instantaneously that lasts forever. At the same time quite sweet and round(malty). Not even a hint of honey and coffe imo. Fantastic mouthfeel, nice and quite viscous, but goes down easily. Good beer all over - looking foreward to a late and cold christmas night to enjoy this beer!

330 ml bottle. Sampled spring 2016. Clear, dark amber body with a small tan head. Strong aroma of dark, light roasted malt, dry fruit. It actually “smells” sweet. Flavor is sweet malt, lots of dry fruit, medium bitterness, faint honey and warming alcohol. There are also hint of oxidation, but in a very nice way. It’s seems like three to four year with good cellar condition storage has threated this beer fine. This one has more depth and flavors than the original Julebokk, and I have to give it higher score, but as an overall experience I might still prefer the original. Aroma: Balanced fruity and nutty.
Palate: Medium to full body. A bit sweet and a mild bitterness. Average to soft carbonation. Oily texture.
Taste: Balanced fruity, malty, toffee and some spicy notes. Not to much alcohol in the flavor.
Overall impression: Decent, powerful and tasty beer.

Small creamy shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet fruity, caramel malts, grass, coffee, citrus peel, burnt caramel, spices, butterscotch, alcohol, honey, chocolate. Taste is kind of harsh and a little metallic, caramel malts, grass, butterscotch, citrus peel, spices, alcohol, cocoa, honey, coffee. Medium to longlastig bitterness, thin body. Disappointing!

Bottle, 2012 vintage. It pours a clear, deep copper colored body and a dense, finger-thick off-white head. Lacings occur. The aroma is rich, but not as dark as the Julebokk its recipe is based upon. It’s more on the dried fruits side than the roasted, burnt caramel side. Also, there’s quite a lot of heather honey going on, and a touch of alcohol. Not much alcohol actually, considering it weighs in at 10% ABV, but it’s more evident in the flavor, especially in the end. In the far back there’s some citrusy hints, but I’d expect more aroma and flavor from the coffee added. Strangely enough the Julebokk, brewed without coffee, tastes more of it than this beer. It’s quite sweet and warming on the palate, full-bodied and quite pleasantly carbonated, and finally in the finish I find something I don’t like, a metallic touch. The flavor doesn’t have as much heather as the aroma, but there’s sure honey going on. It’s quite bitter too, the hops play their part well even though the amount of bittering hops used doesn’t seem to be very high. Toffee and prunes too. Towards the very end it sort of dries up, feeling less sweetish than the Julebokk, the amount of bittering hops used probably plays a significant part it seems. Well, overall this is most definitely a tasteful and pleasant beer, pity it seems to be a one-off, but we can certainly hope for more experiments from this Carlsberg subsidiary. By the way, the 4.0 score I give is with some doubt. In my opinion this beer isn’t as good as Julebokk, but it’s pretty close. 131031 berlinoise2go (689) - NORWAY - AUG 24, 2013
Bottle (33cl) from Vinmonopolet (Storo), Oslo. Half-inch light beige head, somewhat sticky, leaves some lacing. Clear mahogany colour. Sweet aroma with dried figs, malt, caramel, rum, hint of banana. 33cl bottle at The Dubliner. It poured a dark amber colour with a medium big white head. Aroma is sweet and laden with malts, caramel, hazelnuts and aomw hints of honey. Flavour is also sweet, but balanced. Alcohol is very subtle. Notes of caramel, malts, nuts and chocolate. Some fruits. Medium long aftertaste.
