Dark black color. Large creamy tan head. Aroma is roasted malt. A medium bodied Schwarz beer. Malts are very roasted, nutty with a touch of cheery sweetness. Hops are fairly spicy. Chocolate and coffee flavors, with a touch of fruitiness. Sort of porterish, except its lighter bodied. Well balanced. Lots of flavor. Very smooth. Nice very drinkable beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. spydog (75) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - DEC 20, 2002
A bit thin but otherwise a nice roasty, chocolaty flavor.................... Gusler (2653) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 10, 2002
Re-Rate 11/10/02: The pour is pitch-black in color; head immoderate in size, light chocolate in color, and the lace thick clinging sheets that last till the bottom of the glass. Nose is malt, light roasted grains, fresh and clean. Front is malt sweet, the top has a middling mouth feel, finish is potently acidic, hops are portly, the aftertaste malt dry. One of their better efforts as I see it, and well worth a sample, don’t be afraid of the “Dark Side”, you might just like it. Ranks #519 on my current 1000 beer master list.

Extremely dark, with an excellent roasted, bitter chocolate flavor. Kind of a porter flavor until you swallow and realize that it's a lager. Usual but pretty good. htomren (12) - Long Beach, California, USA - JUN 12, 2002
Wow, I was very surprised by this beer. It was dark, rich, and bursting with flavor, roasty and chocolatey.

Deep brown in color. Roasty and chocolately in the nose. Sweet roasty start. Middle of the road body (not enough IMHO). Dry slight bitter finish. legion242 (2348) - Richardson, Texas, USA - APR 24, 2002
Black in color of course; Head was tan and medium; Coffeebean and wet burlap in the nose. Satisfying if unassuming. BeerLimey (2154) - California, USA - APR 23, 2002
A little too light but respectable version. Smooth and chocolaty, just soured a little in the finish.
