Sampled at the brewery, pours a cola brown with some clumpy, white head. Nose has malt, mild pine, a little wet dog, some cola, nougat. Flavor has marzipan, malt, bread, pine, dried grass. Dry finish. Good. bellco33 (819) - Willington, Connecticut, USA - APR 10, 2016
Poured into sample glass at brewery: Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, slight cocoa notes, resin, and leaves. Taste slightly sweet, lots of coffee, roasted malt, resin hops on back end. Medium body, pretty nice tfontana (976) - Fremont, New Hampshire, USA - MAY 21, 2015
Bottle from The Drinkery, Derry NH. Aroma is bold contrast of roasted malts with hints of chocolate and resinous hops. Appearance is opaque black with thick, two-finger creamy beige head, minimal sparkle. Taste is mildly sweet with hints of coffee turning moderately bitter at the end--they seem to be fighting each other more than complementing each other. Palate is medium bodied, fairly thick with lively but not overpowering carbonation and moderately bitter finish. Overall, the aroma and appearance made me think we had a classic but the complex taste is not totally harmonious and the palate was good but not world class. Good but shy of great. jcwattsrugger (12420) - Florida and, New Jersey, USA - OCT 29, 2014
22oz bottle Batch 187 (just like pubofjefflyons)-big foamy tan-mahogany. A-resin, roasty-dk malt. T-ashy-dk malt, bitter earthy hops. 3.3 OK, style on RB-BIPA. In comment/description-Smoked Black Ale. Adjusting taste and overall by 1 = 3.5

From the 650 ml. bottle marked Batch 187. Lovely looking black pour with a foamy tan head that slowly settles down. Kind of well carbonated. The aroma has a definite earthy and floral hop note with a sweet roasted malt and molasses note. The body is in the medium to heavy range. The taste tends to emphasized the earthy and resiny hops over the malts but it is nice balance.

Pours black with a creamy head. Nice fruity hop presence on the nose. Good amount of carbonation with a slightly dry finish. Overall a great balance of malt and hop flavors make this one worth a taste!

My Bottom Line:dlovell2 (2142) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - SEP 29, 2013
Roasted coffee beans, earthen resins and citrus fruit converge atop almonds and dark chocolate, leading to a coniferous finish.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sticky head of foam tops the darkness.
-The flavor profile is balanced and quite intense for a 5% brew.
-This is like a Stout straddling a Black IPA.
-Carbonation levels are too high for this type of flavor profile, imho.
-This brew is beautifully aromatic.
Picked up a 22 oz bottle while I was in Maine. Pours black with a tan head. Smokey malt and citrus aroma. Chocolate roasted malt flavor with hoppy citrus finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown, almost black, body with a nice one finger tight bubbled brown head. The nose is bright citrusy hops over a chocolate malt and lightly roasty Porter like malt base. Some lighter notes of coffee and dark chocolate. The flavor is really well balanced by the bright citrusy hops and a slightly sweet chocolate malt backbone. Finishes with a touch of roast, licorice, burnt caramel, and citrus fruit. Medium bodied with a slight resiny clingy finish. Perfect soft fizzy carbonation level. Really great hoppy Porter/Black IPA, whatever you want to call it. Very nice, these guys are doing some really great stuff. jkwood04 (5448) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 15, 2013
22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a lacy, tan head. Aroma of dark malts, a little caramel and smokiness, dough, plus a good amount floral/lightly citrusy hops. Flavor about the same, with a hints of smoke and a good hop finish. Average texture. Not a bad beer.
