Pouring at The Festival in Portland with Kramer, Andrew, and J-Dadmond. Pours a hazed gold with a thin white head. Soft funk and light wood. Gentle grapes. Medium bodied, pungent and with a light herbal note. Soft wheat, tangy wood and barrel notes. Gentle alcohol, wheat and musk into a finish loaded with chewy yeast. Sampled at THE FESTIVAL 2013 in Maine with Andrew, Jay and Kramer. Pours a hazy golden body with white lacing. Aroma is light funk, faint fruit, oak and some wine. 375 ml bottle purchased at Bier Cellar. The aroma is funky oak, vinous white grapes and a citrus under all the grapes. The body has a slightly yeasty body with Cabernet grape lingering through-out the sip. Oak is the other dominate flavor in this brew giving a very dry texture over the tongue. Tap sample at the brewery, several tap pours at The Festival. Pours a clear purplish tinged dark gold body with a small fizzy off-white head. The nose is vinous and slightly funky with some wood and earthy hay-like notes. The flavor shows a really well done barrel treatment that shows off some nice vinous character without totally overpowering the base Saison. Gentle earthy and funky Saison qualities to the base beer with excellent Cab Sauvignon grape notes and a slightly tannic finish. This was barrel aged perfectly. A touch heavier bodied than expected for a Saison, but it work really well with the woody character and the moderate fizzy carbonation level. Really nice beer, one of my favorites from my trip to The Festival.

375ml bottle... Pours a hazy somewhat muddled hay-like brown and topped with a soapy white head... Aroma of gin botanical, wood, and spice. Not much of a sauv presence... Flavors are semi-sweet, woody and filled with oak. Earthy woody finish, a little boozy. Somewhat harsh and overly oaked. Medium bodied but boozy. Adequate carbonation. Appearance : Clear pale amber.
Aroma : Spicy with nice saison yeast and lots of wood. Rather vinous.
Taste : Quite woody with vinous notes. Saison yeast with quite a lot of spices. Wood spices.
Overall : Great woody profile. Nice vinous notes. Nice wood spices. Great barrel work here. My first beer from this brewery. Impressive !
375ml bottle: Purchased at the brewery. It opened with a loud "POP". This one pours a very cloudy amber color, with a hint of ruby. There was about an inch of a foamy white head that didn’t linger very long. Minimal lacing. The aroma is interesting. It has picked up some of the Cabernet and oak, and the result with the beer is almost brett-like. The taste is very good. There is a good saison in the background, but it has picked up a bit of the cabernet and oakiness. A bit of tartness to it also. A hint of spiciness. I’d definitely buy another one of these. A really tasty lightly tart saison with a nice light wood tannic quality. I’m excited to see more BA saison type things out of Rising Tide.
