Tap at the Ginger Man, NYC, 18/05/13. Listed by the GM as ’River Horse - Oatmeal Coffee Stout 6.7%’ but checking the database and reviews I figure it must be this beer as most reviews give mention to the coffee.
Mid black with a medium sized dirty tan/mocha head.
Nose is roast malt, cocoa, light coffee notes, molasses.
Taste comprises chocolate, roast malt, coffee, molasses.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, roast in the finish.
Solid enough. jtclockwork (17284) - , New Jersey, USA - DEC 10, 2010

12oz bottle. Small tan head atop brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, milk chocolate, some coffee, oat. Taste is moderately sweet, lactose, coffee, milk chocolate, roast, light oatmeal, faint earthy, cinnamon. Light-medium body, light acidity but fairly smooth. It doesn’t stand out compared to others in the style, but it’s still tasty. bu11zeye (13215) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - NOV 30, 2010

On tap at the Ginger Man. Pours a deep brown bordering on black with a medium sized dense tan head. Sweet oatmeal, chocolate, roast. Medium bodied, really nice roast over some caramel and oatmeal sweetness. Finishes up with a hint of that sweetness carrying over as it plays with a nice subtle roast bitterness.

12 oz bottle-pours a foamy to rich dissipating brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/anise, ashy, lactic, secondary sharp/acidic hops. Taste is rich dark malt-chocolate/cocoa, ashy, lactic, secondary sharp/acidic hops. Good carbonation. Closer to a dark porter with the amount of hops. Not quite to my taste but nice. Thanks jwc215 for picking this out. hopscotch (11247) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 16, 2009
Bottle… Pitch black ale with a small, frothy, beige head. Good retention. The luxuriant, sweet aroma presents chocolate, nuts and lots of vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. The flavor is roasty and fairly sweet and imparts shades of chocolate, nuts and coffee. Finishes crisp and mildly sweet. Kudos to scraff for floating a bottle of this beer my way! DocLock (11048) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 21, 2010
Bottle from Capone’s. Onyx pour w 3f tan head. Nose is dark choc, molasses, dark cereally malt, and a dry, oaty, somewhat lactic, oaty, and creamy flavor, but rather light on the palate and not terribly complex. Despite those minor faults, this is one of the best River Horse brews I have yet quaffed.
