Not a strong aroma, but a good mix of spice. Pours and heads like a typical stout. The taste is robust and mostly smooth. A very good stout. phillybass (115) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 13, 2016
A smooth and rich and creamy stout. Definitely will drink again. Not too heavy.

Pours a five+ finger tan head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Opaque dark brown color. Light-medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Molasses nose. Flavor is sweet molasses and coffee. $1.83 for a 12oz bottle from Manchester Wine and Liquors Manchester, CT. nj_BierMaven (124) - Flemington, New Jersey, USA - DEC 11, 2010
Six pack from Central in Flemington NJ. Was the last six in the store, as there was a beer-tasting going on, and though they weren’t pouring this one the brewmaster was recommending this as his current best effort. Pours a deep brown-to-black, tight head, leaves a nice coating on the glass. Toasty oats, slight smokiness, chocolate and coffee hints, just the right balance on the mouthfeel, not too heavy but by no means light. Impressive effort.

Great stout with very balanced flavor. Lots of coffee, chocolate and espresso flavor. Pours black with quickly dissipating head. Great summer stout, not too heavy, smooth. For non imperial stout, this may be the best I’ve had. afireinside96 (923) - Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 9, 2008
12oz bottle served in an English pint glass. Pours very dark brown, nearly black, topped by a receding khaki head. Lots of oatmeal on the nose, some roasted grains, and dark chocolate. Taste is bitter chocolate, coffee, cereal, and a touch of smoke. As it warmed I picked up a hint of licorice. For a beer this size the mouthfeel is quite amazing, big, thick and coating. I have had a few River Horse beers before that I was not too thrilled about but this one is definitely a winner. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - DEC 1, 2010
Thanks to mday for opening this at a recent tasting.
A: Pours near-black with a nice, thin tan head.
S: Plenty of roasted malt characteristics alongside a nice blend of coffee and chocolate.
T: Coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, hints of toffee, and a small but existent hop presence.
M: Smooth, medium-body with good carbonation.
D: Very nice. Not normally one of my favorite styles, but I loved the smooth nature of this alongside the very nice balance of coffee and chocolate flavors.

Appearance: dark brown with a short tan creamy head. Aroma: lightly roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cream, and black bread. Taste: sweet milk chocolate, a hint of caramel, vanilla, and cream, with a toasty note of brown bread and cream. Finish: slightly sweet, with a soft lactic tang. Notes: Smooth, soft body, with sweet (but not too much so) creamy flavors. The lactic tang was present but restrained. A lovely sweet stout. sinkr (323) - Odenton, Maryland, USA - JUL 17, 2009
Bottle->English pt.: pours a large, light brow head that exhibits good lacing atop a black body. Aroma of molasses, grain, and coffee. The body is full, texture creamy, with average carbonation, and an astringent finish. The flavor’s duration is long, heavily sweet and lightly acidic and bitter.
