2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: MAY 25, 2012 Draught snifter at Vine Street Pub: Toasted orange. Fragmented eggshell foam. Horrendously off-putting and artificial-smelling odors of gummy candy, applesauce, custard, butterscotch, bath soap, grape bubblegum. Light-bodied with edgy carbonation. Semi-dry and firm with an early crackery malt surge swirled with a tarnishing applesauce flab. Underattenuated yeasty rancidity imparts mucky notes of dirty dish rag and circus peanuts. Discordant flavors of buttery dandelion and a gummy candy slickness muddle the center. Sugary sweetness steadily heightens as the pear syrup and Red Delicious apple gain steam. Poorly masked alcohol combines with the malt to create a honey-soaked poundcake effect. Malt is on the haylike/toasty/biscuity side, but also is quite husky and grainy. Finishes puttylike in its yeastiness with an overemphasized spicy fervency from excessive adjuncts. A very unclean and aimless rendition. Calling this a saison makes my heart hurt. But regardless of stylistic guidelines, this is just plain foul.
375ml bottle. Spicy Belgian yeast aroma with coriander, banana and pepper notes. Pours cloudy golden colored with a thin white head that has decent retention and good lacing. Starts with sweet banana flavors with coriander notes. Finishes dry with Belgian yeast flavor as well as a peppery finish. Good saison! jcr (2719) - Jasper, Indiana, USA - OCT 20, 2015
Bottle. Golden body with a frothy, white head, lasting. Aroma of toasted grain, basement mustiness, lemon zest, pepper, plastic. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Alcohol in the finish. Sweet for a saison with light banana taste along with spices and citrus. 3fourths (9351) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUL 17, 2015
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2015 draft. lightly hazed orange body with a small off-white head. little retention. nose is peppercorns, herbs, flowers, plastic, dried banana, candy sugar, dust, caramelized pale malt. Effervescent, bitter, carbonic, sweet and a little juicy. Pale malt is savory and succulent and honey-ish and rich and lightly toasty in the way of Heller Bock, but with esters and higher carbonation. unclemike (3160) - Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA - JUL 1, 2015
Low haze golden pour. Weak foam. Sugary candy aroma with stickier, phenolic Belgian yeast. Taste is more like an Abbey Tripel with booze, sugar, soap and hefty rustic grain cracker content. Eh. Dusty mouthfeel. mcberko (18431) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 22, 2015
22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy murky golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out farmhouse yeast and lots of murky notes. Flavour brings out sweet stone fruits and murky yeasty notes. Not an authentic saison - not even close. Pretty shit really.
