A little hop on the nose. Flavor is clean and simple with a little hop bite.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy reddish copper color with a small dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, light roast, green apple, raisin, plum, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Ok aromas with solid complexity and decent balance of dark/bready malt and fruity yeast ester notes; with solid strength. A bit too estery with green apple on the nose. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, raisin, fig, plum, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, raisin, fig, plum, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and robustness of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast ester, and earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this a nice Bock style. Good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/bready malt, fruity yeast ester, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. If the nose wasn’t overly estery this definitely would have scored a bit higher. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Sample at The Ohio Taproom. Clear orange-brown color with a medium foamy light beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Roast malt, caramel and fruit in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, fruit and grassy hops. The finish is fruity up front with a short toasty malt aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

12 oz bottle, Kroger Bridge St. Dark garnet-copper, ugly soda-fizz head dissipates into nothingness; no lacing. Dark, sweet, indiscernible dark vegetable/fruit, caramel, tiny hint of roast. Pretty meh

PorterPounder (8396) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 3, 2014
Tallahassee, Fl.- ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle. Sparkling medium copper pour, quickly fading off-white head. Aroma is sweet with some toffee and baked brown bread. Flavor is full bodied with some toffee accents, a touch of vanilla, some dates and raisins. Sticky enough mouthfeel. Not a bad little bock.

Bottle from Save On. Light brown amber with flat head and a little lace. Mild caramel and fresh herb aroma. Mild toasty caramel with grassy and minerally medium bitter herbal finish. Medium body. Medium carbo accentuates minerally flavor. Pretty good.

Bad label, squat 12oz bottle. Murky, tea-colored beer. Thin, milky head without much cling. Cereal-grapey aroma - reminds me of raisin bran. A burley graininess to it, like a hearty bowl of oatmeal. Nicely bitter. Some dark dried fruits - dates, raisins, prunes. Muted choco-fruit in the finish. Slightly heavy body. I liked this more than I thought I would. ABC, Betton.

2/17/2011: Rivertown Brewing Co. Bock Beer... Aroma: Funky hoppiness paired with sweat and mustiness (reminds me of Heineken out of a green bottle); POPCORN. Appearance: Deep golden color with a dense, lasting, thick beige-colored head; the beer has a clean and clear complexion. Flavor: Hmmm... Doughy, pale malts with a decent level of sweetness followed by floral (perfume) and grassy hops; crisp finish and mild to moderate bitterness that dances on the tongue and then lingers. Palate: Medium body; smooth mouthfeel with just a little bit of heft. Overall: I’m very unimpressed; if Heineken came in a bock version, I think it would taste like this beer; looking at the other ratings for this beer, it must be much different and much better on tap!

12 fl. oz. bottle (twist-off cap) from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #22 for this beer.

Quite strong initially but mellows as the session continues. Goes down pretty easy. OK with me. You’d never know it was over 5%!

Draft. Lactic chocolate malt aroma. Amber with moderate head. Sweet creamy toffee malt flavor. Light astringent finish. Nicely drinkable.
