Pint on tap. Clear, deep mahogany with a few bubbles. Nose is dusty grain and stale coffee. Taste is charred grain, sourish dark grape candy, coffee and a bit of unsweetened chocolate. The harmonious melding of these flavors would be very nice, however they appear mostly as a choppy and unsettling series of single note solos. Light-medium body is a bit too fizzy and lightly astringent.

Rated on 10-26-2011 (Bottle) When poured, this beer has a small beige head that mostly diminishes, amber transparent body, fizzy carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is malt, nutty and some spice. The flavor is sweet, caramel malt, nutty, and spicy. The mouthfeel is tingly carbonation and this beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer does not have a lot of character and the flavor is bland and boring.

Bottle: pours a nice nutty brown with a small light tan head. Aromas are sweet bread, some nutty and chocolate aromas too. Taste is nice and sweet, roasty, and very drinkable. Love seeing this style around, and this is a good example of it.

12oz bottle. Mildly translucent deep amber-brown body. Thin, soda-like head. Pleasant caramel, chocolate aroma. Medium bodied, true to style. Sublime, easy going. Brown sugar, brown chocolate, caramel. A fresh, solid example of the style.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a brandy snifter. Pours a translucent brown with a white head of foam. The aroma has notes of toffee, licorice, and cinnamon. The taste is nutty and sweet with some nice spice notes. Light body with a subtle carbonation. Pretty nice.

Draft sample at Listermann Oktoberfest pours dark drown. Nose earthy malt (but in the background a faint hint of dog poop, like the stuff that’s aged in your shoe for a couple days and you try it out with a stick) Taste sweet malt toffee a little biscuit. If it wasn’t for that wierd aroma, I would have rated it higher.

Surprisingly light. Notes of carmel and ever so slightly sweet with a long mild after finish that stays on your tongue . ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

As the description mentions, this beer is pretty light. Just a slightly darker version of the pale ale.
