Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark reddish brown pour with thick tan head that laces well. Aroma brought notes of nice cherry wood, campfire, hints of caramel, toffee, pretty nice smelling. Taste is a mix of caramel, toffee, some metallic notes, hints of smoke, touch of oak, slight rye notes in there with some spice, unfortunately some ash comes through on the back end, finishing fairly bitter, dry. Bottle, pours clean garnet with meringue almond head, aroma is chipotle with some mineral tones. Light nutty malt with smoked green peppercorn flavor dominant. Pours red with a soft off-white head. Aroma is sweet, fruit, floral and most notably salt-pork. Taste is smokey and fruity; pretty tasty. Also pretty light-bodied. My criticism is that I want more of everything. I would have liked a more full bodied beer. More aroma. More smoke. More sweetness. More alcohol. There just wasn’t enough for me. 12 oz. bottle from Dilly Deli. Pours a deep reddish-amber with a finger of rocky, frothy off-white head that laces the glass heavily. Aroma of smoked malts, leaves, rye, and toast. The flavor sneaks up on you. The smoke takes a while to kick in but leaves a nice, long satisfying finish after an indistinct start. Rye, leaves, toast. Some mineral and earthy notes. 12oz bottle. This is a really enjoyable Smoked beer. Filtered amber body, creamy off-white head. Rather mellow and medium bodied, sort of leaning towards a UK feel. The cherry smoke flavors are very balanced and judicious, not overwhelming. Really nails the Rauchbier in it’s medium body, drinkability. This really gives the Irish Red style some life, and remains balanced. Good stuff.

Another forgettable release from Rivertown, this one should be glossed over for Mt Carmel or something else local. It is not overly flawed so much as dull with no focus. Try at your own risk (of disappointment).
Aroma / Appearance - The reddish black body is the best part of the beer. Glowing with a ruby warmth it traps the remnants of the creamy legs. Hammy peanut brittle is not smoky so much as it reminds me of walking through a smokehouse. Red vines lurk in the background sending even more mixed messages.
Flavor / Palate - Thin bodied and very mild this is boring from the first sip. Cigar ash and bacon crumbs do not make a smoked beer. The red ale aspects would have been better without the additional touches. Another meh release from southern Ohio.

Bottle from Party Town. All of you people who have rated this beer are wrong. War is a very, very impressive and savory, delicious beverage worthy of praise. An Irish amber ale with rye and cherry wood smoked malt is so ingenious that I never thought of it in my wildest smoked beer dreams. There are no massive malts or hops to mask the delightful smoke, the rye gives it a little tart edge, the yeast is appropriately mildly fruity. Huge smoke is in the aroma and throughout the flavor. It’s like meat and campfire everywhere on a medium palate with little fruity suggestions making things interesting. The finish is like smoked meat, cigars, camping and awesome. This is definitely one of the best American smoked beers I have ever had. Huge props to Rivertown, now officially my favorite brewery in Ohio. Bottle purchased at Blacklick Wine & Spirits. Clear red pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of firewood smoke, malt and some ham. Malty and smoky flavor with a bitter grassy hop and firewood smoke finish.
