Draft at Fobab 10. Pours a deep amber with a tight white head. Nose is richly herbal and grassy with some toasted malt to back it up. Floral notes of the heather stick out. On tasting, a malty sweetness leads but is put in check by a bitter heather note. Floral and grassy with some vanilla coming in. Drying tannins. Some spruce notes as well. Quite nice. On cask at Piper’s Pub. Graham crackers, toasted malt, oak barrel and champagne caves, light wine and grape juice aroma. Mild alcohol notes. Light floral hops. A terrific nose on this. Dark coppery amber clear with thin off-white lacing head. Medium heavy watery body with cask carbonation. Starts sweet and rich, malty with lots of oak, caramel, vanilla, and toasted grain. Light tang with a hint of woody bitterness. A bit too sweet for drinking a lot, but with dinner it’s terrific. Almost seems like a bit of cranberry flavor, astringency.
