12oz can. Poured an amber color with an off white head. Caramel, toasted nuts, and some lighter fruitiness.
12 oz can from Dutch’s from notes. Pours a reddish brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, toasted malts, hints of fruit, a little earth, nothing bad just not much to get excited about either. Beerdedone (3452) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 5, 2017
Can. Pours dark brown with a short tan head. Aroma was roasty and nutty with caramel, toffee and light smoke. Flavor of toasted malts, toffee, caramel, earth and had some nuttiness. SpringsLicker (3677) - Tennessee, USA - FEB 18, 2017
Deep garnet with an off-white head.
Light, nutty malt aroma.
The flavor is lightly sweet with a tangy bite on the back end.
Not quite a Scottish ale, more in the Brown Ale type in drinking. This needs a bit more malt complexity and body. cheap (6074) - Beaver Valley, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 30, 2017
same as https://www.ratebeer.com/beer/rivertowne-maxwells- Sampled at the Rivertowne on tap in Monroeville 12/2007. A little perfumy, but not much. Slightly cloudy brown. Thin creamy head. Nearly flat on the palate. Earthly and nearly bitter. Perhaps some hints of wet straw in there too. The bitterness build with each sip but never gets too out of control. Overall, an OK and unique beer, glad have had the chance to try it. I think East End old hickory may be a little better than this, but not much.solidfunk (9407) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - DEC 4, 2016

12 ounce can, no canning date that I could find but I’m pretty sure this was a new arrival at my local beer store so I’m assuming it’s a somewhat fresh can. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a clear reddish/amber color with about an inch off-white head that stuck around a little while. There’s also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like nuts, grainy/bready malt, toffee and some eathiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there’s also some light peaty smokiness and fruitness (apple, pear) noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. Truthfully, I only bought this because Maxwell is my last name. But this is a nice Scottish Ale, it’s certainly worth a try! If you like malty Scottish Style Ales, might as well try this one. $2.79 a can. dmac (6451) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - NOV 14, 2015
12oz can from Xroads. Poured a clear orange-brown with a small bubbly light beige head. Aroma is earthy, light peat, caeamel and chocolate malts, nuts and tea. Flavor is real nice, peat, earth, nut shells, dried out orange rinds, dough, hint of toffee. Body is a touch thin with average bubbly carbonation. Rather surprised by this one I like it. Clearwater, Fl - Total Wine - 12 oz can. Dark amber pour, light off-white head. that fades quickly. Light toffee aroma with some peat-like accents. Grounded earthy flavor with some sweet toffee notes a touch of Biscotti sweetness, a touch of vegetable funkiness. Crisp mouthfeel. Pretty decent.
