tap at CCB hunahpu day, golden light coper color, aroma is citrus, pine hops, toffee, caramel, flavor is caramel, toffee, nice bitterness, good balance, alcohol is well hidden
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear orange with a small white head. Aroma of sweet malt, light fruits, brown sugar, apple juice. Flavor is also juice-like with some cinnamon spices. Not what I was expecting from a barleywine, not that it was terrible. Not that palatable and there is palate fatigue early into the pint. Overall, ok but I’d pass.

Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a dark orange-amber color with a small beige head. The aroma was tangy grapefruit, pine and pineapple. The flavor was tangy and bitter with a on off sour nutty presence and moderate fruity, floral and resiny hops. There was a note of table sugar underneath. The finish was long and dry with piney and fruity hops and again the sour nut. Full bodied. Hides the alcohol well. machfive55 (358) - Columbia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 14, 2010
A very solid barleywine with a nice malty aroma, and an excellent balance between malty and hoppy. Overall a very good beer. zebracakes (1339) - Washington DC, USA - SEP 3, 2007

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2011 Ignore my numbers if you are a barley wine lover. Just slightly darker that the ubiquitous pale yellow lager. Sweet powerful aroma. You know this is gonna deliver a taste bud kick. No head. Alky is well hidden in the initial taste. Bitter alky flavors begin to rise but it never gets over the top. has an interesting fruit back drop. Finish is medium length and alky bitterness. Much better than most barlywines. Almost acceptable for a style I don’t care much for.
