750 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow color with a large white head. A big sweet nose with loads of spices and banana. A very clean fruity flavor also dominated by banana, yeast, fairly dry, big dry spices. Good.

750-ml. bottle pours mostly clear gold with thick white foamy head; lots of visible south-to-north carbonation in glass. Aroma: slight barnyard (smells like a saison), some spiciness, yeast. Flavor: honey, corn syrup (it’s on the sweet side), coriander, white pepper slight banana and clove, peaches. Mouthfeel: medium-bodied, smooth, somewhat slick.

Slightly veiled almost golden color with a thick white sparkly 2 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with some good legs. Aromas of citrus, sweet grains, and metal. Flavors of citrus like lemon, smoky corn, roasted grains, coriander, slight fruity ester, herbal spices. High syrupy sweetness. Strong adjunct roasted corn taste. Slick medium body with prickly carbonation. Medium strength finish, ending with a vinous fruity citrus feel and harsh bitter spices. Overall an average failed copy of La Chouffe : Unpleasant flavors, a little flat and missing the nice freshness of a good Belgian Ale. Warming but boozy. Badly spiced.

Bottle (341 ml) at home. Clear golden with a small white head, moderate retention, leaving little lacing. Aroma is of coriander, grass, Belgian yeast, citrusy notes and honey. Taste is slightly sweet and quite coriander forward with a touch of citrus, an honeyed backbone, grassy notes and a touch of alcohol. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Mouthfeel is a bit oily. Coriander finish with a mild alcohol warmth. Decent spicy Belgian Strong Ale, but too coriander forward for my liking. Ok.

This pseudo-chouffe was a grab in a Montreal grocery store on my recent trip when i used RB to discover it’s under license rather that a straight rip-off. Golden blonde with slight haze, active carbonation, and decent white head. Yeasty malts sweet nose in true Belgium style. Yeast rich taste. Mildly bitter malt? bite but over sweet with a slight bubblegum and cilantro finish. Overall pretty good. Would love to try s direct comparison with the original.

Bottle version. Quite yeasty, bready malt, some dry fruit and honey, hints of spice, dry finish. Tasty Belgian ale but probably not as complex and balanced as the original Chouffe.

Pour is a loud, cloudy gold with a finger of white head that’s gone like a wisp of smoke. Nose is fruity/spicy/bready, a bit of citrus. Taste follows, with a weird hint of bitterness on finish. Not quite the same as the original, but a pretty solid authorized copycat.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2014 Fruity and sweet apple, cedar, pine, musty aroma, barnyard furry friends. Cloudy blonde with frothy head. Flavors are heavy sweet with balanced finish. Smooth in mouth.
