Coup de Grisou was introduced on the market in October 1996. It is a copper-coloured Ale-type beer, containing 5% alcohol, refermented in bottle. With a potent, explosive taste, this beer has a powerful aroma of buckwheat and coriander giving it an unbelievable density. Bottle refermentation imparts a yeast-enriched flavour. Serve between 6° and 8° C, preferably in a hybrid glass.

Much akin to the gent on the label of this brew, I held my head in abject horror and despair upon drinking this. Actually, it wasn’t that bad, just really disappointing, especially following the same brewery’s Death Valley DIPA, which fails miserably in style points but was more enjoyable nonetheless. Also, "Coup de Grisou" has something to do with mining explosions. Super cloudy light straw colour with a very foamy head. Light tangerine and wheat scents as well as some alcohol. Mildly sweet but overall too watery and too little carbonation to get much enjoyment out of it. Hardly any taste of buckwheat. Pass.

341ml bottle. Cloudy orange with a foamy white head. Flavors are yeast, buckwheat, orange peel, coriander, pepper and ginger with perfumey notes. Medium body, good carbonation, smooth texture.

Robe orange, fine mousse.

Poured a thin layer of head and quickly recedes. A nice dark hazy amber colour. Aromas of oranges, bananas and spices. Wheaty flavour, a hint of banana, yeast, and some citrus type bitterness. Goes down fairly smooth. Gives a tingly mouthfeel. Would love to try this one on tap!

Bottle version. Rich buckwheat character and earthy spices with a fairly clean finish. Decent buckwheat beer but I still prefer the Telenn Du.

[7008-20141222] Bottle. Yeasty icing sugar aroma. Hazy, orange body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Yeasty sweet icing flavour has a lemon finish. Medium body. Good. (7/4/8/4/15) 3.8

The wheres, whens and hows of first trying this one are somehow blurry but I remember liking it and I was able to come across a pack during the holidays of 2010. Poured a golden foggy body with nice lacing. The nose is intense and spicy with strong notes of buckwheat, caramel and coriander. The taste is also quite strong with a complex blend of spices, buckwheat and malts supported by a mild sharpness and sour-sweet flavours that finish in a medium vapory bitterness. Might get overwhelming so consider enjoying this one with moderation. Goes very well with salametti and creamy cheeses like the champsfleury, sauvagine and rouy.
