Pours a mostly opaque dark mahogany with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark malts with a mild resiny piny hop note. Starts with average fullness and a semi-sweet toasty dark caramel and roasted malty flavor with a pretty good balance of fresh piny bittering and flavor hops before a bittersweet dark chocolate finish. A pretty enjoyable dark IPA, but could use a little more fullness. Hides its alcohol well, though. BlackWarrior (220) - Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA - NOV 29, 2009
A dark brown pour with a reddish hint. A small, foamy head leaves some lacing. A floral, hoppy aroma, with a slight nuttiness. Nice crisp, medium body mouth. Well balanced flavor starting with a hint of roasted coffee and ending with a strong hop note and some bitterness. A satisfying beer that can be enjoyed both alone and with steak or stronger cheeses.
